The party investigated the basement of an old house, seeking the source of the enchanted blizzard, forcing them within. As they neared, Val made a sudden flaming dash to the source, a hideous old hag, setting her ablaze and alerting her to their presence. [00:01:00] Speaker C: So I was thinking the other day, and this is really, honestly, just super weird for me, because as a man who does not have a lot of hair on his head, I spend a lot of time in the mirror doing my hair, which is weird, like I said, considering I don't have a lot of hair on the top of my head. And I was wondering, since we have a ranging set of people with hair here, I want to know how long it takes each of us to just prep our hair in the morning. And if you don't want to say it, that's fine. Five minutes, which is weird, considering how much hair you have. [00:01:37] Speaker D: No, that makes sense for how much. [00:01:39] Speaker C: Hair he has, but five minutes, I feel like that's a very infinitesimal amount of time. [00:01:45] Speaker A: I mean, so all I do for work, since I am one of two people here with long hair. [00:01:55] Speaker E: Jenkins looked around like, who else? And he looked at me like, oh, yeah. [00:02:01] Speaker A: Isn't it obvious, you listeners at home, you can tell Abby, no. What I do with my hair is I have a natural part, so I brush it out so it's not as frizzy, and I just pull it back into a ponytail because I need to just keep it out of my way for work. [00:02:21] Speaker C: Okay. [00:02:21] Speaker E: It takes you five minutes. [00:02:22] Speaker D: He has to brush it out. [00:02:24] Speaker A: I put a little bit of water there because of the frizz and some. And some product. Yeah. [00:02:29] Speaker B: I mean, if we're not talking about, like, shampooing, like, washing and stuff. Like, last week, I took, like, two minutes to get my hair ready, and as of, like, today, I don't even do anything after I clean it. [00:02:40] Speaker C: Well, it looks good. [00:02:41] Speaker D: I'm concerned now. I take no time, on average, my hair, mainly because, as I've said before, I believe on the show, it doesn't. It doesn't care. It does what it wants all of the time. [00:02:57] Speaker F: My hair is really thick. It doesn't get, like. It gets kind of long, but it's mostly just super thick. So it kind of is mal. It's kind of moldable, so it typically just kind of stays how it is. So I don't really do much at all. I just. I'll comb through it just to get rid of tangles. But generally it kind of stays this general shape. It gets kind of crazy sometimes, but it kind of works because of how thick it is. It generally works out. The most I do is to my beard, where if it gets too long, my beard just sticks straight out and looks super patchy. So then I just put some balm on it if I need to. [00:03:32] Speaker D: He no longer has a beard. [00:03:33] Speaker C: We don't talk about that. [00:03:34] Speaker E: Yeah, we don't talk about Sam's appearance. [00:03:37] Speaker F: Stop asking me about. [00:03:38] Speaker A: Oh, yeah, I'm sorry. [00:03:40] Speaker D: I guess if we're talking about then, like, maybe a second, because I do have to, like, push it, like, move it forward. Otherwise, it's just, like, spread. [00:03:47] Speaker F: I've never done much to my hair. [00:03:49] Speaker C: So for my research and, Abby, I'll let you get to. If you want. If you want. [00:03:53] Speaker E: No, that's fine. What's your research? [00:03:57] Speaker C: Okay, I'll let you say it now. [00:03:58] Speaker E: Tell you my research. [00:03:59] Speaker C: Well, I mean, it did involve mostly just guys, but it seems to me at this moment that guys with longer hair tend to spend less time than guys with shorter hair. That's what my research has been showing me. [00:04:16] Speaker E: Okay. [00:04:17] Speaker F: You have the shortest hair and you spend the most time on your hair. [00:04:21] Speaker D: Exactly. Are we the only sample? [00:04:24] Speaker C: For now, yeah. I don't have any other friends. [00:04:26] Speaker D: Because Sven immediately contradicts. [00:04:30] Speaker C: Well, no, he said it wasn't very long. [00:04:32] Speaker D: Well, I mean, five minutes. [00:04:34] Speaker C: Abby, what about you? If you want to answer, like, 10 seconds. 10 seconds? [00:04:39] Speaker D: That's amazing. [00:04:40] Speaker E: I brush through my hair. If I am annoyed with it, I'll, like, pull it up into a frickin weird bun thing. But other than that, I don't give a crap. [00:04:51] Speaker A: I mean, your hair is more forgiving. [00:04:52] Speaker E: If I'm going somewhere, I'll spend some more time. Like, if I'm going to an event, I'll spend some more time on it. But, like, day to day, like, 10. [00:04:58] Speaker F: Seconds from day to day. Aren't you only going to spend much time on your hair if you, like, style it, if you braid it up into some stuff or whatnot, what else are you going to do with your hair every day that's going to take you, like, 30 minutes? [00:05:12] Speaker C: Well, see what I'm thinking? My hypothesis is that it takes people with shorter hair to do their hair because it tends to get way more wild before they do it. [00:05:26] Speaker F: I mean, my hair gets really wild. And I can just. But I usually just. [00:05:29] Speaker D: My hair. [00:05:30] Speaker E: It depends on your hair texture, too. [00:05:32] Speaker C: That's true, too. [00:05:32] Speaker D: Like, my hair doesn't get wild until it's long. [00:05:36] Speaker B: Speaking of people doing their hair in the morning, you are now all up against this seemingly womanish creature, although it looks like no human woman you've ever met. And as I had mentioned at the close of the last episode, her hair is all just standing on end, as if collected by static electricity. At the ends of her hands are these claw like fingernails she's wrapped in furs and robes that are now, like, singed from the flame from Val as she came darting into the room. Val, I believe you said it was two D six. Fire damage from your entrance. [00:06:06] Speaker F: She needs to make a reflex save. [00:06:08] Speaker B: All right, what's your dc? [00:06:12] Speaker F: The item has a dc of 23. [00:06:14] Speaker B: That's a fail. [00:06:16] Speaker F: That is five fire damage. [00:06:19] Speaker B: All right, now it's an issue to roll. If anybody would like to use their deception checks, they may keep those deception rolls. [00:06:27] Speaker E: I would like to keep my deception rolls all possible. [00:06:31] Speaker F: Before the combat started. I need to recall knowledge. Okay, that's fine. [00:06:36] Speaker B: No, you dashed with reckless abandon. [00:06:39] Speaker D: I am very upset because I forego rolling initiative so I can do my special ability. I rolled above an eleven, which means it works. I rolled one under. What it gives me. Anyway. My initiative is 30. [00:06:55] Speaker A: Mine, too. [00:06:57] Speaker D: What'd you get? [00:06:57] Speaker A: 19. [00:06:58] Speaker D: I got an 18, but because of the thing. Yeah. Nice. [00:07:01] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:07:01] Speaker F: Since everybody's rerolled, I got 27. I only ask. Cause if I know for sure it's a hag. I don't know if I'm able to just know for sure it's a hag, then I'll attack it. But on my turn, I don't think. [00:07:12] Speaker B: Val would be worried that this is a person. [00:07:14] Speaker F: Okay. I have no sympathy towards hags. I will kill a hag the same way I'll kill an undead, run into. [00:07:21] Speaker C: A basement, burn her, and say, you are not a person. [00:07:25] Speaker B: Sick. Burn. [00:07:26] Speaker A: Vicious Mocri. That's not a thing. [00:07:29] Speaker D: Flaming retort? Is that what it's called? [00:07:32] Speaker B: Between Jenkins and Sven? You guys both rolled a 30. How are you breaking that tie? [00:07:36] Speaker A: He is. He. Three decks. [00:07:37] Speaker B: So then with Val, beginning with that flame charge, then we'll immediately begin our initiative on Alward. [00:07:44] Speaker A: Hmm. [00:07:46] Speaker D: And we could see her now? Cause all the boxes are broken. [00:07:48] Speaker B: Yes. The crates that were forming this barricade that she was hiding behind have been smashed and are just kind of smoldering, flickering in the darkness. [00:07:56] Speaker D: Hmm. I'm going to sustain my unseen servant and have him move above the hag. [00:08:06] Speaker B: Okay. Blocking any movement towards the party with this invisible servant. [00:08:11] Speaker D: Yes. [00:08:11] Speaker F: What, does your unseen servant get? Flanking? [00:08:13] Speaker D: No. It cannot attack and is therefore not a threat. [00:08:18] Speaker F: Okay. It's just there next to her. [00:08:20] Speaker D: Yeah. It can interrupt movement and such like. I've been using it. And then what I'm going to do is do a recall knowledge check on the hag. [00:08:30] Speaker B: All right? [00:08:31] Speaker F: Allegedly. [00:08:32] Speaker D: Alleged. My alleged. [00:08:34] Speaker A: Alleged. [00:08:35] Speaker E: Sure seems like a hag. [00:08:37] Speaker B: It'll be a secret check. [00:08:39] Speaker D: Oh. [00:08:39] Speaker B: Do you have an applicable lore that you would like to use? [00:08:42] Speaker D: I have a counting lore. [00:08:44] Speaker B: All right. Then it'll be society. [00:08:46] Speaker F: It's an accounting plan. [00:08:48] Speaker A: You're gonna count those bones? [00:08:49] Speaker D: I'm gonna count them bones plus 15 success. [00:08:53] Speaker B: You know that this is a level six storm, haggard. It is a hack, as you suspected. [00:09:00] Speaker F: Noise. [00:09:01] Speaker B: What would you like to know about it? [00:09:03] Speaker A: Very haggish. [00:09:05] Speaker D: Do we want to know saves or weak or immunities or resistances? [00:09:11] Speaker E: I'm good with whatever anyone wants, but I would personally like weak is safe. [00:09:16] Speaker D: Okay, let's go ahead and do weak. [00:09:18] Speaker B: A safe reflex. [00:09:21] Speaker A: That makes total sense. [00:09:23] Speaker D: Yep. Okay. And I'm assuming Will's the strongest, which would suck. Yep. [00:09:29] Speaker E: For me. [00:09:30] Speaker D: Then I'm going to reach out, and out of my hand comes this, like, shimmering light that on the floor, traces a path to Val. And Val. What you see? Well, we'll. I'll wait for her turn to explain what she sees. [00:09:50] Speaker F: Okay. [00:09:51] Speaker D: And that is my turn. [00:09:53] Speaker A: U ver over, is going to see the hag, see where Val is and what Val is doing. And after he hears the fact that she's a storm hag, he's. His eyes just gonna light up a little bit and says, ah, storms. This should look familiar. It's not what you think. As suddenly, from behind her, directly behind her, the stuff, you just see it slowly swirling as things just start picking up, almost as if there's wind, but there's no wind. As he casts animated assault directly, actually, right in front. [00:10:35] Speaker B: I'm having trouble parsing in front. [00:10:37] Speaker D: Oh, you doing my unseen servant. [00:10:39] Speaker A: I'm sorry, I don't see where your unseen servant is. I'm just putting it there. [00:10:43] Speaker D: But why aren't you putting it on the hag? [00:10:46] Speaker A: Their reason being is that she would have to go through it, and it's a ten foot emanation, so she would have to come towards us. Yeah, if she was going to. [00:10:54] Speaker D: Right. But you could just get that damage now. [00:10:57] Speaker A: It's still gonna hit her. It's a ten foot wait. [00:11:00] Speaker D: Okay. [00:11:01] Speaker A: Burst. [00:11:02] Speaker B: Yeah, ten foot bursts start from a corner. [00:11:04] Speaker A: I didn't know that. [00:11:06] Speaker B: So, like, you could do that. Yeah, and it would fill the hallway, but. But it wouldn't hit Val and it would hit the hag. [00:11:12] Speaker A: Yeah, that's what I was going for. [00:11:14] Speaker D: If I remember right. That's a reflex. [00:11:16] Speaker A: It is a reflex. What's your DC 22? [00:11:21] Speaker B: Regular success. [00:11:22] Speaker A: Oofta. [00:11:23] Speaker D: Regular success. My unseen servant has a forward reflex for some reason. [00:11:29] Speaker A: Okay, two d, ten. So have two d, ten. [00:11:33] Speaker F: So I was all prepared using this gown last time, and then we ended the episode. I'm supposed to also make a strike at the end of my stride. And I never struck because we ended the episode with it. [00:11:45] Speaker B: Let's. [00:11:46] Speaker F: We just want to do it on my turn. [00:11:47] Speaker B: Yeah, let's do it as a free strike. That doesn't count. Towards a map at the beginning. [00:11:51] Speaker F: I just wanted to roll low. [00:11:52] Speaker A: Three damage. Five and a one. [00:11:54] Speaker B: Okay. [00:11:55] Speaker D: It has resistance. Five to all damage. [00:11:58] Speaker E: Your unseen server does. [00:11:59] Speaker D: Okay, so he's fine. [00:12:00] Speaker A: Good. I still have an action. And with that action, I will cast shield. [00:12:07] Speaker B: All right, Neros, it's your turn. [00:12:09] Speaker E: I need to be closer. [00:12:12] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:12:12] Speaker D: Where? [00:12:12] Speaker B: Neros. You're standing currently at just at the base of the stairs. You can see that the crates were smashed through, but you don't actually have line of sight to the hag at the moment. [00:12:22] Speaker E: I would like to be within 30ft of both Val and the hag somehow. [00:12:27] Speaker B: Yeah, if you ran to the front of the line in front of Alward, then you'd be within 30ft of both of them. [00:12:32] Speaker E: Okay. And then that was just one action. Okay, with my last two actions, I'm gonna cast haste on Val. [00:12:41] Speaker F: Ooh, Val. [00:12:42] Speaker D: Val's getting all the buffs. [00:12:43] Speaker F: I've been hastened. [00:12:44] Speaker E: So, yep, you get an extra strike or stride, if you would like. And that is my turn. [00:12:52] Speaker B: And it is Val's turn. So, Val, you can go ahead and get your free strike. That's not actually part of your turn. That was part of your charge in. [00:12:59] Speaker F: Yes, my ash can. Alright, with my glaive. 27. [00:13:08] Speaker D: Nice. [00:13:09] Speaker B: That's a hit. [00:13:11] Speaker F: 13 slashing damage. [00:13:14] Speaker B: Right? [00:13:15] Speaker F: And then my turn proper starts. Trap. I should have actually been 5ft next to. I shouldn't have started this far away, but that's my own. [00:13:24] Speaker D: You are hastened. [00:13:25] Speaker F: I'm. Since I'm hastened, I can do this. I'm gonna take a step forward towards this creature, and the skull paint on my face grows stronger. If any of you are close enough, it starts smelling a bit like rotting flesh as I reach out and grab the hag, or attempt to grab the hag. [00:13:46] Speaker D: Is this an attack roll? [00:13:47] Speaker F: This is. [00:13:47] Speaker D: All right. So as you go to do that, you see a faint, like, a very quick vision of one of them succeeding, and then another time of you failing. And the one that's succeeding looks to be, like, glowing brighter and more of your attention as you gain advantage on this, since I guided the timeline for you. [00:14:07] Speaker E: Oh, my gosh. [00:14:08] Speaker F: So she's reaching for this thing. [00:14:09] Speaker D: She's like, oh, sorry. You get the fortune effect as I guide the timeline. [00:14:14] Speaker E: That's really cool. [00:14:15] Speaker F: Roll twice. Take that. So she's gonna look at this thing as she reaches out with the fleshy arm, and she says, your days of terrifying controlling these people are over. And she's gonna try to grab them. Uh, 25. [00:14:32] Speaker B: That's a hit. [00:14:34] Speaker F: Awesome. She's gonna. So I use withering grasp, and I'm gonna do three d twelve, I believe. [00:14:42] Speaker E: Oh, my gosh. [00:14:43] Speaker F: Yeah. [00:14:44] Speaker B: Wow. [00:14:44] Speaker F: Three d twelve damage, plus one d four. [00:14:48] Speaker D: I'm glad I gave you the fortune. [00:14:50] Speaker F: Plus some persistent damage, but hold on. [00:14:52] Speaker D: Where did you get this coy smile? [00:15:00] Speaker F: That's 15 negative damage. So let's see. It says the damage increases by one for persistent. Does it just mean, like, it'll become one d four? One. One d four two. [00:15:11] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:15:12] Speaker F: Okay. Yeah. So that 15 negative damage, it will take one d four plus two persistent negative damage. [00:15:20] Speaker B: All right. [00:17:04] Speaker D: He can't do anything until the round resets, so. [00:17:07] Speaker F: Okay, well, it moves the creature further out of me, my space, so I'll move it that way. [00:17:12] Speaker B: She pushed her one square further into the animated assault range. [00:17:16] Speaker F: Can I throw her into the cauldron? [00:17:19] Speaker D: That might just make the movement null and void. [00:17:21] Speaker B: Yeah, I think the cauldron is large enough that it would stop her movement rather than force her into it. [00:17:26] Speaker F: That's what I was wondering. Yeah. I'll move her up and to the left, closer to the party. But now she's in the middle of that field, and I believe that is my turn. [00:17:35] Speaker E: That's a really good turn. [00:17:38] Speaker D: Yeah. [00:17:38] Speaker F: Thanks, guys. [00:17:39] Speaker E: It lasted five minutes, but it was a really good turn. [00:17:42] Speaker F: Sorry. [00:17:43] Speaker E: Hey, don't be sorry. [00:17:45] Speaker B: And then it is the hag's turn. She is wounded and bleeding, and she looks at val, snarls, looks back to the rest of you all who have been coming down into the room single file. She will run up next to the crates, and she will reach out one of her clawed hands. [00:18:04] Speaker E: No, no, no. [00:18:05] Speaker B: And a jolt of electric energy just shoots across the entire line of you. I'm going to need reflexes. [00:18:13] Speaker E: Electric arc. [00:18:15] Speaker B: It's lightning bolt. [00:18:16] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:18:17] Speaker D: Much more terrifying. [00:18:18] Speaker E: Oh, God. [00:18:19] Speaker A: Wait. Hold on, hold on. I gotta look at something here. [00:18:26] Speaker E: These numbers turn in hero points on saves. Yeah, I'm gonna do that. [00:18:31] Speaker A: I'm going to activate. Ancient blooded. I get a plus one to this. [00:18:36] Speaker D: So I rolled a four, activated my chrono skimmer ability to redo my save and get a plus one. I rolled a four, so I'm turning in a hero point. [00:18:46] Speaker B: Is your chrono skimmer, is that a fortune effect? Because if it were fortune, then you would not be able to use another here. [00:18:52] Speaker D: Oh, no, it is. I cannot do that. I see the fortune tag. [00:18:56] Speaker B: All right, so let's go down the line neros. [00:18:59] Speaker E: I don't want to talk about it. So I rolled. [00:19:40] Speaker C: I bent a card to reroll. [00:19:42] Speaker D: Okay. [00:19:43] Speaker C: And I rolled seven, which, plus my 13 is an unnatural 20. [00:19:48] Speaker B: So a regular failure. [00:19:50] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:19:50] Speaker F: I feel so bad running off from you guys. Now. [00:19:53] Speaker D: You're good. [00:19:54] Speaker E: It's okay. You were never set foot in this land. And then she's gonna slash with her glaive. [00:26:50] Speaker B: And you get that flanking bonus because Neros is threatening on the opposite side. [00:26:55] Speaker E: Threatening, doubled over in pain. [00:26:58] Speaker F: 31 flanking. [00:27:00] Speaker B: Did you add a bonus for flanking or no? [00:28:34] Speaker B: Her glaive and neros. It is your turn. [00:28:37] Speaker E: I'd like to back away, far, far away. More than 10ft, please. [00:28:44] Speaker C: Just run up the stairs past the. [00:28:46] Speaker E: Yeah, that'll work. Sure. [00:28:47] Speaker B: So near us, you back up to the wall opposite. [00:28:50] Speaker E: Yeah, that's probably not smart, but that's where I'm gonna go. [00:28:53] Speaker F: If you were one step closer, I could use a reaction. If it tries to attack you. [00:30:18] Speaker B: I'd recommend that she is really looking beat up. She is bloodied, she's got a big gash in her from that critical hit from the glaive, and she is looking concerned. So she starts waving her hands around again to cast a spell, and as she reaches the culmination of this, out from her hands just starts pouring like a fog machine, this thick mist that just rises up around her and the 20ft around her are now covered in a viscous mass of mist, a mistus. So anything within the space shown on the board is concealed to you as it's full of mists. [00:31:02] Speaker D: And what's concealment do again? [00:31:04] Speaker B: You have to make a flat check five or better to hit what's in it. [00:31:07] Speaker D: Okay. [00:31:08] Speaker B: And it is now Zafir's turn. [00:31:10] Speaker F: Oh, that was her whole turn. [00:31:12] Speaker C: What I'm trying to think of is I can use my shooting star. It gives the benefits of concealment, negation, and cover reduction. [00:31:20] Speaker D: That'd be great. [00:31:21] Speaker C: I'm gonna do that. I'm gonna do exactly that. [00:31:24] Speaker D: Ten out of ten. [00:31:25] Speaker C: So you see him knock another bow and just straight into the cloud. The last time I saw her, you just see a shooting. Well, not a shooting star, but another flaming arrow goes straight for her. Eh, I can use this card anyway. Well, I rolled a four plus 14. Does 18 hit? [00:31:48] Speaker B: I don't think I tell you before you commit to your card. [00:31:51] Speaker C: Well, I mean, you can, because it says it plays after I fail an attack roll. [00:31:56] Speaker B: Ah, you fail this attack roll. [00:31:58] Speaker C: No, I didn't. Oh, my card lets me automatically succeed. [00:32:03] Speaker D: Good. Do your regular damage as if you just shot your bow, and then it has all those special effects as well. [00:32:18] Speaker D: Oh, it's really good, because it has. [00:32:19] Speaker B: The wording of make a range strike. So it's just a regular attack, and then the rest of it is the special effects from the. Okay, I would also like to point out this does not have the attack trait. [00:32:30] Speaker D: What? [00:32:31] Speaker B: So this does not contribute to your multi attack penalty. [00:32:33] Speaker D: Oh, that's amazing. [00:32:36] Speaker C: So does that mean you can attack. [00:32:37] Speaker A: Again without a negative? Without a negative, yeah. The waves just seem a bit denser this time. As if he pulled from the bottom of the water realm, and as if the pressure is contained in the waves as they hit her and instantly just crush her into a tiny ball, eviscerating everything into a pinprick. And then the waves just whoosh along the floor, dissipating, and all is left is mush. [00:38:40] Speaker D: Gross. [00:38:41] Speaker E: Yummy. [00:38:42] Speaker B: And we see as the water is kind of, like, draining back through the extra dimensional portal, a single potato spins and comes to a stop. And that's where we'll end this episode. [00:38:57] Speaker B: All right, so the hero point for this episode actually goes to both Petit and Abby, because we didn't hand out a hero point at the end of last episode, since everybody was full up, there was one waiting in the wings.
