[00:00:05] Speaker A: You are listening to an atomic broadcasting production. So sit back, relax, and enjoy the feature presentation. And remember, do your part, such as, like, comment rate. And don't forget to tell a friend to tune in for an atomic time. [00:00:31] Speaker B: Now, where did we leave off? Ah, yes. On their way to Ilva in the grungear forest, our heroes were surprised by a sudden, unseasonal blizzard. Seeking shelter, they discovered a hamlet where an old man cheerfully warned them not to. [00:00:59] Speaker C: We're gonna give you your lead in here, Jenkins. Hello, everyone. It's time for two truths in a lie about animal facts with Abby. [00:01:13] Speaker D: Hello, there. I am Abby, and I'm here to bring you two truths and one lie on animal facts. My song went away, and I lost the hype. [00:01:23] Speaker E: I couldn't keep doing that forever. [00:01:25] Speaker D: Okay, is everyone ready? You have your brains prepared and your writing utensils, so you can write it down. [00:01:33] Speaker A: I refuse. [00:01:34] Speaker D: Sven. You. [00:01:35] Speaker E: Sven. [00:01:36] Speaker C: It's not Sven's fault he doesn't have hands. [00:01:39] Speaker D: Okay, are you ready? [00:01:41] Speaker E: Yes. [00:01:41] Speaker D: All right. False or truth? [00:01:46] Speaker F: Okay, let's say we're all gonna go in a circle and answer one at a time, so we're not just gonna blurt it out. [00:01:51] Speaker D: I choose a. I choose a false or truth letter. One lion roaring is actually called caroling and can be heard up to 5 miles away. Ooh, letter. Yep. Chameleons have something called zygodactylus feet. And the last, which is of some importance, I suppose. Fish control their swim depth by just adjusting their fins. [00:02:31] Speaker F: This is hard. They all sound true. [00:02:34] Speaker E: Okay, I know what one I'm choosing. I so desperately want the first one to be true. [00:02:41] Speaker F: I also don't know how to spell zygodactus. Or, well, you forgot an chameleons, either. [00:02:47] Speaker E: I just wrote down the letter she gave us. [00:02:51] Speaker C: Well, she gave us one. Yup. And last. [00:02:53] Speaker E: Oh, right, it was last. [00:02:56] Speaker D: Wait, do I need to repeat anything? [00:02:59] Speaker F: What was the last one again? I have fish adjust. That's all. I have. [00:03:03] Speaker D: Fish control their swim depth by adjusting their fins. [00:03:06] Speaker F: Okay. [00:03:07] Speaker E: All right, you have it written down. [00:03:08] Speaker D: Sven, in your brain. [00:03:09] Speaker A: Yes. [00:03:10] Speaker D: Okay. [00:03:10] Speaker E: All right. Sven should go first if he didn't write it down. [00:03:13] Speaker D: Is everyone good? [00:03:14] Speaker C: Yes. [00:03:15] Speaker E: Yeah. [00:03:15] Speaker D: Okay, we'll start with you, Sven. [00:03:17] Speaker A: I choose last. [00:03:19] Speaker D: Okay, hang on. I have to write that down. [00:03:21] Speaker B: So. [00:03:21] Speaker F: Wait, you mean last as in you're going last or last as in that's your answer? [00:03:25] Speaker E: That was the letter she gave us. [00:03:27] Speaker F: Last? [00:03:27] Speaker E: That was. [00:03:28] Speaker A: It was one. Yep. Or last, and I chose last. I don't. I think fish. [00:03:34] Speaker D: You don't have to explain why fish. That's my job. [00:03:37] Speaker E: I think circle. [00:03:38] Speaker F: That's all I have. [00:03:38] Speaker B: Okay, Jordi, I'm gonna go with letter one. [00:03:43] Speaker D: Okay, hang on. I have slow and cold fingers. [00:03:49] Speaker F: Alphanumeric eye. [00:03:51] Speaker D: What? [00:03:52] Speaker A: What? [00:03:52] Speaker D: So the first one. [00:03:54] Speaker F: Yay. [00:03:55] Speaker D: Okay. [00:03:58] Speaker E: We'Re trying to pick out the lie, right? [00:04:00] Speaker C: Yes. [00:04:01] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:04:01] Speaker E: Okay. I picked last. The fish one. [00:04:06] Speaker F: Wow. [00:04:07] Speaker C: I also picked last. Cause I feel like there's more to it. And I know, like, part of the lion thing is true. [00:04:13] Speaker E: Like, hey, I feel like fish have swim bladders, but I don't know if it's all fish or just some fish. [00:04:18] Speaker F: Okay, now, I want you to read these out in order of truth. [00:04:21] Speaker B: Truth. [00:04:22] Speaker A: Lies. [00:04:22] Speaker F: So we can have the lie the last. [00:04:24] Speaker D: Okay. [00:04:24] Speaker F: So we can be like, drum roll. [00:04:26] Speaker D: Truth. Truth. Lie. Truth. Lion roaring is actually called caroling. [00:04:32] Speaker F: Dang it. [00:04:32] Speaker D: And it can be heard up to 5 miles away. [00:04:35] Speaker C: See, I wasn't sure if you were lying about what it was called, but that included the mile. [00:04:39] Speaker B: Exactly. I knew it could be heard 5 miles away, but I was like, maybe it's not called carol. [00:04:43] Speaker D: It's actually called caroling. [00:04:44] Speaker E: I love that. It's called caroling. [00:04:45] Speaker D: Yeah. That is so, because if one lion starts, the rest of them will join in, and it's like a carol. It's really, really cool. [00:04:53] Speaker E: I'll have to work that up later. [00:04:54] Speaker D: Hark. [00:04:55] Speaker C: The. [00:04:57] Speaker A: Lion roars. [00:04:59] Speaker F: Lion angels. [00:05:01] Speaker D: So there's that. And so, second truth. Chameleons do have something called zygodactylus feet. [00:05:07] Speaker F: Ooh, ants. [00:05:09] Speaker C: What is that? [00:05:10] Speaker D: I will explain it in a minute. [00:05:11] Speaker C: Oh, okay. I'm just excited about their feet. [00:05:14] Speaker D: Psychodactylus is my favorite word in the world, and I can't spell that. The false is that fish control their depth by adjusting their fins. And you're right. They do have a swim bladder. They do have a swim bladder that helps them adjust their depth in water. [00:05:28] Speaker E: Because isn't it, like. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. [00:05:32] Speaker D: Yep. [00:05:32] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:05:33] Speaker F: I also have a swim bladder. It makes me have to pee every time I touch the pool. [00:05:36] Speaker D: Okay. Tmi petite. [00:05:40] Speaker E: Okay, so, zygodactylus. [00:05:43] Speaker D: Yeah. So this is my favorite word, and I just wanted to do this banter topic based around this word because it's fun to say. [00:05:50] Speaker E: It's a good word. [00:05:51] Speaker A: Zygodactylus. [00:05:51] Speaker D: Zygodactylus. So what zygodactylus means is essentially pinching or grasping feet. So you have two toes on the foot that go forward and two toes that go backward so they can literally grasp whatever they're reaching for. So birds have this type of foot as well. So if you see a bird sitting on a branch, that's why they can sit there and actually grasp it. And chameleons have it. [00:06:14] Speaker F: So I like the word, but it also terrifies me. But it also makes me think of, you know, those old ace bandage wraps, like, instead of the sticky kind that adheres itself like little clothing. [00:06:27] Speaker D: Yeah, those. [00:06:27] Speaker F: That's what it makes me think of. And that terrifies me because every time I got a wrap, it would just clamp into my skin. [00:06:33] Speaker D: It's not wrong. [00:06:35] Speaker E: I just think of the spongeBob meme. Firmly grasp it. [00:06:41] Speaker D: I don't know this meme. [00:06:42] Speaker E: I'm not gonna explain it. [00:06:44] Speaker D: Okay. [00:06:44] Speaker B: Can the editor emerge from his banishment to ask a question, please? [00:06:48] Speaker D: Sure. [00:06:49] Speaker F: Sure. [00:06:49] Speaker C: What's up? [00:06:50] Speaker B: Do our koalas also zygolactylus? [00:06:53] Speaker D: No, they are not. [00:06:55] Speaker B: Okay, so they have two thumbs for a different reason. [00:06:57] Speaker E: Then I did hear. I forgot what it's called. But, like two of their fingers are fused together for some weird reason. [00:07:06] Speaker D: Evolution did that. [00:07:07] Speaker E: Much like, I forgot what it's called. [00:07:10] Speaker F: Webbed finger. [00:07:11] Speaker E: No, they're not webbed. They're just. They're literally fused. [00:07:14] Speaker F: What would they call the koalas? Yeah, their fingers are koala aberrating. [00:07:22] Speaker E: Oh, my goodness. [00:07:25] Speaker F: Not even gonna try it again. [00:07:27] Speaker B: Speaking of zygodactylus toes, your humanoid toes are getting cold as the weather is dropping and you're the first few fleets. Lakes of snow are beginning to fall outside of the small hamlet where an elderly man has stopped chopping wood to very cheerfully encourage you not to enter if you value your lives. However, he's speaking in Hallet, and Alward is the only one who understands. [00:07:48] Speaker E: Yay, Al. [00:07:50] Speaker C: Word with an ice. [00:07:52] Speaker E: He's going to put his hand down and in front of uver to stop him from moving. And with a concerned look on his face. And Howlett, be like, why, your house looks warm. Can we stay? [00:08:05] Speaker B: The man's demeanor suddenly shifts from cheerful to looking really nervous. And then he, like with a very fake smile, is just like, how strange. It's almost as if the newcomer understands our made up language. [00:08:21] Speaker F: What are they talking about? They sound really, really happy. [00:08:25] Speaker E: I'm. [00:08:25] Speaker A: Is there something wrong? [00:08:27] Speaker E: One. I'm still in Hallett because I'm not thinking. I'm like, 1 second. Um, it's not made up. What are you talking about? [00:08:38] Speaker B: He looks over his shoulder back into the house and like, says something through the window, like quietly so you can't hear it from where you're standing. And then turns back and very cheerfully waves and says, this house is. House is death, but you may enter if you choose and waves you on, like towards the house. [00:08:56] Speaker F: Um, he wants us to join him. [00:09:00] Speaker E: So he keeps saying that if we join him, we'll die. He also calls Hallett a made up language, which doesn't make sense. [00:09:09] Speaker C: Hallett is regardless, what if he's using parts of Hallet, but isn't fully Hallet? [00:09:15] Speaker E: Well, I would be able to pick that out. [00:09:17] Speaker B: The man cuts in, yelling from over at the house. Again, his body language and gesturing. Looks like he's saying, come on, what are you waiting for? But the words he's saying in Hallet are, watch what you say. The walls have ears. [00:09:30] Speaker E: Can the walls understand hallet? [00:09:33] Speaker B: No. [00:09:34] Speaker E: So can you tell me what is wrong? [00:09:39] Speaker B: It's going to be difficult to keep up this charade much longer. Are you coming inside? [00:09:44] Speaker E: I'm going to shake my head no and be like, yes, we're coming in. Let me, let us convene together. Can you come here and show us a path? [00:09:56] Speaker B: He looks down at the axe, looks at the wood he was chopping and yells, like in a stage, kind of, you know, I want to be overheard kind of tone of voice in common. Let me go tell these fine travelers what we can offer if they stay at our house. And he sets the axe down by the house and starts walking over towards you. [00:10:18] Speaker E: Everyone be on God. We. There's something in the house that he doesn't want us to. That can kill. [00:10:25] Speaker F: Zafir is unpacking his tent. [00:10:27] Speaker C: We can't spend this much. We have to do this quickly. You know, the blizzard's coming. [00:10:31] Speaker E: I know. I'm sure it won't take up too much time. [00:10:34] Speaker A: It is this man seem dangerous or what is he? [00:10:39] Speaker E: He seems. Well, does he seem scared to me? [00:10:42] Speaker B: Make a perception check. Anybody else can make the perception check with a minus four circumstance penalty because you don't understand the words he said. [00:10:50] Speaker E: 22. [00:10:51] Speaker F: Natural. [00:10:52] Speaker E: Twelve. [00:10:52] Speaker F: Wait, what? My bonus. [00:10:57] Speaker C: I got a 1416. [00:11:02] Speaker F: Sorry, I'm doing math. Let's say 17. [00:11:05] Speaker B: Okay, so Al word and jubu. [00:11:12] Speaker A: Zafir. [00:11:15] Speaker F: My brain's not working. [00:11:16] Speaker B: It is now, canonically, Zapier, also known as Jubu. [00:11:22] Speaker A: So the DC was 17. [00:11:25] Speaker F: Golly. [00:11:27] Speaker A: Albert and Zipper gotten it without my. [00:11:29] Speaker B: You're able to read his body language and the way he's communicating and you can tell he seems afraid, but it's also. You're getting atone. You know, that much is easy, but. Well, you're also getting an undercurrent of that. He's concerned for you all. [00:11:42] Speaker E: Okay, I I think he's fine. Just be on God. Regardless, he seems nervous. [00:11:52] Speaker A: I don't speak Khaled. [00:11:54] Speaker E: It's ice. [00:11:55] Speaker A: As I say, I speak back. [00:11:59] Speaker E: And Jotun, what do you want? I can translate it to common Jotun. T. And what do you want? I don't. [00:12:04] Speaker B: At this point, the old man has walked up to your group and is still, like, all fake smiles, and he's, like, speaking Inskald that you can all understand if I speak quietly. I don't think she can hear what is going on. She. We are being kept prisoner in our own home. [00:12:21] Speaker A: Why? Why do you speak in a different language? [00:12:27] Speaker B: Because we quickly found out. She thinks that that is a very. A small regional dialect. And he's, like, still speaking, as if this is a very polite and pleasant conversation. She is probably watching right now, so if you want to help, you can come inside now. Otherwise, please leave, or she'll know that I'm doing something here. [00:12:47] Speaker E: There's a blizzard on the way. I'm sure we can. And I kind of. [00:12:51] Speaker B: Yes, that's her doing. [00:12:53] Speaker E: I kind of raise my voice a bit. [00:12:54] Speaker A: Well, is she a witch? [00:12:56] Speaker B: I don't know what she is. But, um, if you're coming, now's the time to follow. Cause I'm out of time. [00:13:03] Speaker E: I kind of raised my voice a bit. So, like, people are far away. Of course we can come in. Thank you for your generosity. The blizzard's getting much too bad for us to stay outside. And, like, nodding to everyone, like, absolutely. [00:13:16] Speaker A: Kind, sir, that offering your home would be most beneficial in this time. [00:13:22] Speaker B: And he says, louder to be overheard. And, hala, again, I'm glad you understood my hand gestures, since I do not speak your language. [00:13:30] Speaker E: And I respond. Inhale it. Of course. Of course. [00:13:34] Speaker F: Just so you all know, Zafir's tent has been set up at this point. [00:13:39] Speaker E: Zafir, can you take your tent down? [00:13:41] Speaker F: Oh, I think I would just leave it out here. [00:13:43] Speaker E: It's gonna get blown away in the blizzard. [00:13:45] Speaker F: I have staked it down. [00:13:47] Speaker E: Okay, but if we wake up and you don't have a tent, don't blame me. [00:13:51] Speaker A: I just lean forward to the man and just kind of cycle through a few of the languages that I know to see if he recognizes one. [00:14:00] Speaker B: He's just kind of shaking his head at you and just walking back towards. [00:14:03] Speaker C: The house so, very happily, Val's gonna put her arms around the people next to her. And she's gonna be alright. Let's head on inside for a nice snap tonight. [00:14:12] Speaker E: It's very important we don't eat or drink anything given to us. Unless it came from us. [00:14:19] Speaker A: Absolutely. I say in Sylvan. [00:14:23] Speaker E: I don't know if I know Sylvan. [00:14:25] Speaker C: Well, um. 1 second Val calls down Sigurd. [00:14:32] Speaker B: And this five foot tall raven flies down from the sky. [00:14:38] Speaker C: Sigourn. And she puts her a bit and she's like, are you gonna be okay outside or do you need to come in as well? It might be dangerous. [00:14:48] Speaker B: Sigrun kind of cocks her head, ruffles her feathers and looks over at a barn that's not too far from the house. [00:14:55] Speaker C: All right. If any. If you notice anything sort of unusual, let us know. Please be safe. [00:15:01] Speaker B: She nods and then flies off into the barn. [00:15:05] Speaker E: How did your bird get that big? [00:15:09] Speaker C: Yes. [00:15:09] Speaker E: Okay. [00:15:10] Speaker C: That's lots of. When I have some more time. [00:15:14] Speaker E: Yeah, you're right. We have to focus on the witch in the house. [00:15:18] Speaker F: Rusterford, I don't want you going inside for too long. Can you go join Big Bird? [00:15:25] Speaker C: Sigourn. [00:15:25] Speaker F: Sigourney. Same amount of syllables. [00:15:28] Speaker B: Rusterford pokes his head out of your shadow and just fine, I suppose, if I'm to be banished with the other livestock. And he flies off into the barn. [00:15:36] Speaker C: What? Hey. [00:15:40] Speaker E: Assuming we're at the door now. [00:15:43] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:15:45] Speaker B: The man like walks up to the door, kind of like as he's walking up to the door, he like traces his fingers along the axe handle like he's thinking about picking it up, but then he just leaves it there, opens the door, steps inside and is like, come, come in. And Hallett. [00:16:00] Speaker E: I'm going to also speak in Hallett. Can you point her out to us. [00:16:07] Speaker B: Please don't speak that language in here. She'll get suspicious. [00:16:12] Speaker E: Right, of course. [00:16:16] Speaker A: Thank you. I don't know how to speak in your language. [00:16:19] Speaker C: I'm sorry, Howard. Speak a real language. Come on. [00:16:24] Speaker B: Just come in. Come in. Make yourselves comfortable. Do please take a good look around and pay attention to whatever you might see. [00:16:33] Speaker E: I'm gonna do that. [00:16:34] Speaker C: Yeah, sure. [00:16:34] Speaker A: I think all of us are going to do that. [00:16:37] Speaker B: As you enter. It's a slightly larger home for like the size of the settlement that's here. There's another, an older woman about, you know, the same age that you'd presume would be this man's wife, who's in the kitchen cooking. And she's making less of an effort to appear cheerful. She's just kind of keeping to herself. And she just, like, gives a smile and a nod at you all when you come in. Goes back to cooking. [00:17:05] Speaker A: Is there anybody else? [00:17:06] Speaker B: Just the two of them. On the north side of the building, there's, like, a lofted area with a bed. And on the eastern side of the building, there's, like a breakfast nook. Essentially, it's like a little alcove part of the building with windows around and a table and chairs. On the western side, across from the breakfast nook, there is, like a stairway heading down into a cellar. [00:17:30] Speaker E: Okay. I sort of point to the seller and be like, we're going to go see if you have any mead, if that's okay. Like, I just look at the rest of the party like, is that what's in? Is that a good enough excuse? [00:17:44] Speaker F: I like basements. I'll come with you. [00:17:47] Speaker B: Everybody make a perception check. [00:17:53] Speaker A: 1914 1613. [00:17:57] Speaker E: Oh, 18. [00:18:00] Speaker B: The man just kind of steps in the way, and he's like, no, I'll get it for you. [00:18:05] Speaker C: Are you sure? It might be heavy. I've got big muscles. [00:18:11] Speaker B: I'm still speaking in. Hallett. [00:18:14] Speaker F: Why are you blocking us? I really like basements. [00:18:18] Speaker A: U ver just walks up to the man. Ah, I'm sorry. There is something that really needs the darkness to be kept in there, and I would like to leave it in there. Would that be okay? [00:18:35] Speaker B: He reaches out and puts his hand on your shoulder, looks over at Alward and is like, I don't actually speak this language. And winks. So I don't know what you're saying, but I'll go down into the basement and get that drink for you. [00:18:50] Speaker A: No, I will say u versus trying to gesticulate and. And say it very slowly, like he's trying to communicate. And that way it's like, I know you don't realize what I'm saying. Well, I know what you're saying, but I'm gonna act like you don't. [00:19:07] Speaker B: I rolled a perception check for him to see if he gets what you're doing. And he seems to like, he nods. [00:19:15] Speaker C: Okay. Sam is confused. [00:19:17] Speaker F: Me too. [00:19:18] Speaker C: I thought he was saying Hallett is the language that the thing thinks is made up. [00:19:22] Speaker E: Yes. [00:19:23] Speaker A: Mm hmm. That is correct. [00:19:25] Speaker C: So us speaking common, he doesn't. [00:19:28] Speaker E: So, from my understanding of the situation, she thinks that only these two people, and maybe, like, their neighbors 6 miles out, can speak this language. [00:19:37] Speaker C: Which language? [00:19:38] Speaker E: Hallett. [00:19:38] Speaker C: Hallett. [00:19:39] Speaker E: So if we come in and just. [00:19:40] Speaker C: Start speaking Hallett, which is what you're doing consistently. [00:19:44] Speaker E: I stopped because he asked me to. [00:19:45] Speaker C: But he's speaking Hallerin. [00:19:47] Speaker E: Right. But because she thinks that that's okay. [00:19:49] Speaker C: I'm confused. I was confused as she doesn't recognize Hallett. [00:19:52] Speaker E: Yeah, right. [00:19:53] Speaker A: She doesn't know how to. [00:19:54] Speaker D: We understand that. [00:19:55] Speaker E: But he recognizes both Hallett, and he's. [00:19:58] Speaker C: Pretending not to speak any other language but Hallett. [00:20:01] Speaker E: Yes. [00:20:02] Speaker C: Okay. It was going, like, fell like it was going multiple directions with the people. [00:20:07] Speaker E: Were saying, I'm going to look at Uvair and in Sylvan, just hoping that she doesn't speak Sylvan. Be like, can you detect any magic around us? Or read or. [00:20:23] Speaker A: I have read aura, but that's it. And that has to be on a object. [00:20:27] Speaker F: I think I actually have detect magic. [00:20:29] Speaker E: Oh, yeah. [00:20:30] Speaker A: Heck yeah, man. [00:20:31] Speaker E: Then I said. I say that in a language that both you and. [00:20:34] Speaker F: You know, whatever, it's only common and I have under. Common and abyssal. [00:20:40] Speaker A: I know I don't have either of those. [00:20:43] Speaker F: Do you just want to draw a picture? [00:20:46] Speaker C: So Val's going to go to the kitchen and see if maybe she can just help in there and maybe make her feel safer and. Or glean anything from her. [00:20:56] Speaker B: Val, as you walk into the kitchen, kind of, you know, gesture like, hey, can I help? She, like, nods and passes you a knife, some vegetables, and a cutting board. And then you notice she, like, glances at your glaive, and, like, pats the glaive, looks at you, and, like, gives you a thumbs up. [00:21:13] Speaker C: Thank you. [00:21:16] Speaker A: Slight retcon, but I think Geordi will allow it. I've been speaking to you in ancient Thessalonian. [00:21:21] Speaker E: Hey, we both know that. [00:21:24] Speaker A: Wow. I think Jordy would allow that. [00:21:26] Speaker C: Joke's on you. This creature's ancient. That's all of you. [00:21:30] Speaker E: Once you tell me that you don't have that special all prepared, I'm gonna turn to the other two magic users, trying to think of a language we all three know together that isn't common or scald and unable to think of some. I'm just going to, with prestidigitation, create, like, basically, like, a tiny object with the, like, words on it. Like, detect magic. Question mark. [00:21:54] Speaker D: I shake my head. [00:21:55] Speaker E: Wait. [00:21:55] Speaker F: Did you write out detect magic? [00:21:57] Speaker E: No, I summoned a. I mean, with magic. [00:21:59] Speaker F: Did you write out the words? This is a defining moment for me, Jordi. [00:22:05] Speaker B: Oh, this is when we can't read. [00:22:09] Speaker E: I'm just looking at you, and then I'm like, wait, hold on. [00:22:12] Speaker F: I need to do things. [00:22:14] Speaker D: We need to get Zafir hooked on phonics. [00:22:21] Speaker F: I am going to. I'm going to do a will save and I'm gonna say, cause I have a plus eleven. If it's above 15, then I can read it. [00:22:33] Speaker E: Oh yeah, seems fair. [00:22:34] Speaker D: Come on. [00:22:35] Speaker C: Come on, baby. Roll low. [00:22:39] Speaker F: I cannot read it. [00:22:42] Speaker D: Gosh darn it. [00:22:43] Speaker F: So with Zafir's inability to conceptualize what is being written in front of him, he just kind of nods his head like a confused puppy dog. [00:22:55] Speaker A: Uwe just turns to Zafir after watching that and just points to his ear. [00:23:01] Speaker E: Oh. Oh. Upon seeing that, Alward is going to also be like a spark of realization. Yes. And then like whisper something very quietly and then like point to the ear and then act like I'm casting a spell. [00:23:20] Speaker C: Oh yeah. [00:23:22] Speaker F: That's so clever. That's so clever. [00:23:28] Speaker A: Wouldn't it be what the spell's built for? [00:23:30] Speaker F: Wouldn't it be horrible if I didn't have that prepared? [00:23:34] Speaker E: That's like your signature. [00:23:36] Speaker F: Okay, yeah, I do have. [00:23:37] Speaker E: Okay. [00:23:38] Speaker F: I have like eleven cantrips I can cast at any point. Make that twelve, actually. With detect magic. [00:23:44] Speaker E: Yeah. [00:23:44] Speaker D: Shh. [00:23:44] Speaker F: We don't talk about that yet. So Zafir looks at you, Euwehr. Then he looks at Albert, he looks back at Uver, and he's just. His eyes grow wide and his mouth just kind of goes agape. And he turns back at Elward and goes, I don't know what you're trying to tell me with message. [00:24:07] Speaker C: Oh, okay. [00:24:08] Speaker E: Can you detect magic with my response? [00:24:12] Speaker B: Both of these entirely inaudible to anyone but the two of you. [00:24:16] Speaker F: And then Zafir's eyes go even wider and he'd cast detect magic at third level. [00:24:25] Speaker C: Whoa. [00:24:26] Speaker F: So it's heightened to level three. [00:24:28] Speaker E: Nice. [00:24:30] Speaker B: You detect evocation magic. [00:24:33] Speaker F: Oh, I send another message. I detect evocation magic. [00:24:39] Speaker A: Is it a directed, like he can. [00:24:41] Speaker B: Tell where not at third level. [00:24:45] Speaker F: Yeah. [00:24:46] Speaker B: So at first level it's. Yes, there's magic at third level. I tell him which school and I believe it's at fifth magic that I tell him where the strongest source is. [00:24:55] Speaker F: I don't know what invocation magic dies. [00:24:59] Speaker E: I'm gonna whisper back, that doesn't sound good. And I'm going to look into the kitchen. It's like, is everything alright in there, Val? [00:25:06] Speaker C: Um, so far everything seems great. Just chopping up some vegetables. [00:25:10] Speaker E: Do you know where we'll be sleeping tonight? [00:25:14] Speaker C: No, I'm in the kitchen. [00:25:17] Speaker B: At that moment, at that moment, there's a veritable wall of wind that hits the side of the house. It seems like the blizzard is practically immediately upon you. [00:25:30] Speaker C: Is there fire going? We might need to start a fire. [00:25:33] Speaker B: There is, there's a good fire going. [00:25:35] Speaker A: U ver looks over to al word, and in ancient thessalonian, what does he find? In a very jovial manner, by the. [00:25:43] Speaker F: Way, what did he find? [00:25:45] Speaker E: And sort of in response, in age with thessalon, I'm like, I feel like we should cut down on speaking in any other language, if at all possible. But it's evocation. Magic is so something around him that's. [00:26:00] Speaker A: An in regular common. Oh, that's wonderful. And the food smells like, what again? It does smell delicious. [00:26:11] Speaker E: You said it was what? Not in the kitchen. Val. [00:26:15] Speaker C: What? Sorry, I was chopping this vegetable scan. [00:26:21] Speaker D: Quite the glaive. [00:26:25] Speaker C: It's, you know, it's just, it's just more comfortable for me. [00:26:30] Speaker A: Funk funk. The cutting board has just giant notches cut out. [00:26:34] Speaker C: She looked at me and she nodded at my glaive. So I thought, easy to cut vegetables. [00:26:39] Speaker F: This is a fantasy realm. If onions make your eyes cry, I'm sure that cutting these vegetables make your ears cry. [00:26:47] Speaker E: Gross. [00:26:47] Speaker C: Um, what was, what was up? Why did you call me? I wasn't listening. [00:26:51] Speaker A: Where's the man? [00:26:52] Speaker C: Oh, all right. [00:26:53] Speaker B: He's coming back from downstairs, looking even more shaken than before. And he looks at Zafir and gestures and is like, and Ian speaking in hallet. It is actually rather heavy. I might need your help to carry it. [00:27:10] Speaker E: I'm going to press the digitation and basically make a script that's, we're not going down there. One by one. [00:27:18] Speaker B: He nods vigorously at Alward. [00:27:20] Speaker C: Oh, if you need some help, like I said, I've got some muscles I can help carry heavy things. [00:27:25] Speaker E: I think he just wants, and I'm going to, like, gesture everyone to the cellar. I think he just wants Zafir. [00:27:33] Speaker F: I'll I'll go. I'm really interested in this basement. [00:27:38] Speaker A: And I just grab Saphir and motion to Val, as in nodding, absolutely. Zafir, can you go down the stairs? Motioning to Val, instead of, instead of Zafir actually going, Val, go downstairs the tank. [00:27:57] Speaker F: I was about to say, why can't I go? But, yeah, no, you're right. [00:28:01] Speaker C: All right, sure. [00:28:02] Speaker B: So, val, washing and drying and motioning. [00:28:05] Speaker A: The, the quietly, like we're acting like Zafir's going, good luck, Zafir. [00:28:12] Speaker F: Alright, here I go, down the stairs. Dun dun dun dun dun dun dun. [00:28:16] Speaker E: Do we need to make stealth checks? [00:28:18] Speaker B: I'm feeling more like deception checks. [00:28:21] Speaker A: I that's bad. [00:28:24] Speaker D: Are we all rolling? [00:28:25] Speaker F: I think the evil is the house. [00:28:29] Speaker B: Hmm. How will we do this? Because this is a group check. [00:28:35] Speaker A: Average. [00:28:36] Speaker B: Generally, let's call this a follow the expert. [00:28:39] Speaker C: Is anyone an expert in deception? [00:28:41] Speaker D: I am a. [00:28:42] Speaker A: Thank goodness I have a minus one. [00:28:46] Speaker E: So how does that work? [00:28:47] Speaker B: So, since Nero says here to, like, give you guys suggestions, guidance. Don't say that. That kind of stuff, you will all get a plus two circumstance bonus. [00:28:57] Speaker E: Oh, that's good. [00:28:58] Speaker A: That makes it a plus one. [00:28:59] Speaker F: Every time you say charisma, I think you're saying Christmas. [00:29:02] Speaker C: I got to 19. [00:29:04] Speaker F: Why did you go so far? [00:29:06] Speaker A: Twelve. How old? An eleven. Okay. [00:29:10] Speaker E: I wish I can use my abilities on you. I wish I could do that so bad. [00:29:14] Speaker F: I'm really bad at math today. 25. [00:29:17] Speaker B: Nice. [00:29:19] Speaker E: 22 for me. [00:29:21] Speaker A: Is it still too late to go for average? [00:29:23] Speaker E: Yes. [00:29:24] Speaker D: So 29. [00:29:27] Speaker B: So if I'm following correctly, Val is going down the stairs first. And is everyone following Val or just letting her go alone? [00:29:35] Speaker E: I'll be behind Val, if that's okay with everyone. [00:29:39] Speaker A: I'd be behind Al would. [00:29:41] Speaker D: I'm gonna go in whatever order I feel like. [00:29:44] Speaker F: Zafir should have been towards the front, considering he was the one who was supposed to go down first. [00:29:48] Speaker A: We specifically held you back. Or we specifically did. You could go behind. You there. [00:29:54] Speaker F: Okay, I'll go behind. Over. [00:29:56] Speaker B: All right, so we've got Val, Alward, u ver, Zafir, and Neros all heading downstairs in a line. As you're heading down, my bow is drawn. As you're heading down, the older man just kind of, like, nervously wringing his hands, just, like, steps back into the room and just watches you go down into the cellar. [00:30:17] Speaker C: This is fun. I'm gonna pull my. I'm gonna have my arm turn in, pop that shield out. [00:30:24] Speaker A: But before Uver goes down that last stair where he's out of sight, he's just gonna turn to the man and just kind of flash a smile, like, don't worry. Kind of a don't worry. We've done this before, probably. [00:30:44] Speaker E: We have not. [00:30:44] Speaker A: Not a witch or whatever this is. [00:30:46] Speaker F: What is this layout? I've been getting into architecture recently, and. [00:30:51] Speaker C: This is not your house. Your house. [00:30:54] Speaker F: This is not a house. [00:30:55] Speaker C: In the middle of our blizzard, in. [00:30:57] Speaker D: The middle of the woods. [00:30:59] Speaker B: So as you all in single file, head down the stairs, you find yourselves in an l shaped cellar. Stone walls, crates around the room, piles of straw here and there. The part that kind of stands out, that doesn't feel like it belongs there is the pile of what to seem to be human bones not too far into the cellar. [00:31:21] Speaker F: As a. [00:31:23] Speaker D: That's comforting. [00:31:24] Speaker F: As a connoisseur of the dead. Can I tell? How many human units were these bones a part of? [00:31:33] Speaker A: What a fray. [00:31:34] Speaker C: How many femurs? [00:31:36] Speaker F: I really had trouble figuring out what to say. [00:31:39] Speaker A: Connoisseur of death. [00:31:43] Speaker B: What lore skills do you have? [00:31:45] Speaker D: Death lore? [00:31:46] Speaker C: I have boatyard lore. [00:31:49] Speaker F: Shadowplane and underworld. [00:31:53] Speaker B: Go ahead and make underworld lore. Check. [00:31:55] Speaker F: Cool. [00:31:56] Speaker E: I just. [00:31:56] Speaker D: As a connoisseur of death. [00:31:59] Speaker F: Of death, I'm going to assume that I see a pile of bones and think, oh, yeah, the human body does have 200 some odd bones in it. I rolled a natural one plus eleven. [00:32:12] Speaker B: But I either several human bodies contributed to these piles of bones, or one very strangely configured person. [00:32:22] Speaker F: One very bony person. [00:32:24] Speaker B: It is dark in the cellar. If you did not have dark vision, it would be difficult to see. [00:32:31] Speaker A: Oh, darn. [00:32:33] Speaker B: As it is, there seems to be a bit of smoke and steam collecting in the far end of the cellar. [00:32:42] Speaker C: I know it's a. Val's gonna just keep inching forward. [00:32:50] Speaker F: Is it too early to cast detect magic again? I don't think I'd get anything else from it, but I feel like now that I can see, like I want to see if I can feel a magic. Old sense. [00:33:02] Speaker B: Yeah, you could cast it again because it is a cantrip. Yeah, but you also just detect evocation again. [00:33:08] Speaker C: Okay, are we actually moving in initiative order now or are we still out? [00:33:12] Speaker B: Yeah, this. At this point, we're still in exploration. [00:33:14] Speaker C: Then I'm gonna have. I'm gonna just have my shield raised and ready as I'm inching forward further into this place. [00:33:23] Speaker E: Would it be too much to cast unseen servant? [00:33:26] Speaker B: Oh, you could cast that. It's just. What? It's two actions, right? [00:33:28] Speaker E: It's three actions. No, it's three actions. [00:33:31] Speaker C: Okay. [00:33:32] Speaker A: If he does it as a ritual. [00:33:33] Speaker E: If I do it as a ritual, it takes a whole day, but it stays around forever and ever. [00:33:39] Speaker F: Zafir looks around to whoever may be around him. If anybody looks at him and he just does that finger thing where he points at his eyes and he points to the steam in the corner. [00:33:49] Speaker A: Or Zafir being all tactical, trying to. [00:33:53] Speaker E: I should mention my unseen servant's going to be in front of Val. [00:33:57] Speaker C: Shimmer, shimmer. [00:33:59] Speaker E: Shaky, shaky. [00:34:00] Speaker B: As you go around the bend in the cellar, there's another, like, row of crates that's obscuring the back wall. And it looks like it's behind that. That the smoke and steam is coming out of. And Val, through the darkness, since you're in the front, you are the first to notice there seems to be a shape of maybe a figure or something standing just around the corner of that last row of crates. [00:34:23] Speaker A: I already know what's gonna happen. [00:34:25] Speaker C: I want to see if I could, might be able to get a jump on this person. Like if I get it behind them and kind of just be able to try and. [00:34:37] Speaker E: Yeah. [00:34:38] Speaker C: Grab them or tell them to surrender or something. [00:34:41] Speaker B: So the way that the crates are aligned, there's like, there's a term for this. It's like a double foil or something where there's. You have to go around one side then loop around the other side. [00:34:52] Speaker A: Oh yeah. [00:34:53] Speaker B: It makes you have to go in an s shape. [00:34:55] Speaker A: Switchback. Switchback. [00:34:56] Speaker B: Yes. [00:34:57] Speaker C: Would you qualify these crates as minor obstacles? [00:35:01] Speaker B: They sure seem like minor obstacles to me. [00:35:05] Speaker C: I think pal, betting on the fact that this probably won't kill this thing and that it might, might intimidate, it might scare this thing. She is going to activate her new item that she just got. I'm terrified she's gonna first tell Albert with her hands to like stop. And then she's gonna step a bit away from Albert so she doesn't hurt him as then the clothes underneath her armor. So on these various gaps in her armor and such a bunch of flames start looking out and fire and ash starts burning out as she just shoots off in a blaze of flame. Destroying all obstacles in my path, ignoring all difficult terrain. And any I move through is destroyed. And creatures that are adjacent to me at any point. Take two. D six. Fire damage with a reflex save. [00:36:03] Speaker E: That is very cool. Want to take it away from you? [00:36:07] Speaker C: Mm hmm. [00:36:07] Speaker E: You're destroying these people's food supply. [00:36:09] Speaker C: It's. Well, I don't know what's concrete. [00:36:16] Speaker F: I mean, it could be like it's magical. [00:36:18] Speaker C: It's not the man. The fire won't spread. It's not right. [00:36:22] Speaker E: But everything is destroyed. [00:36:24] Speaker C: I don't know what's in the crates. And there's a monster that I'd rather kill. [00:36:27] Speaker E: If we have to keep in a cellar. [00:36:29] Speaker C: There's other crates down here. [00:36:31] Speaker A: This isn't winter. This is actually the beginning of summer. So destroying. [00:36:35] Speaker E: If I thought it was the end. Spring, okay. I thought it was the end of. [00:36:38] Speaker F: Either way, once my bad creepy things gone, the blizzard should also be gone. [00:36:42] Speaker A: Yeah. Where the the. I was just realizing you're taking winner. [00:36:46] Speaker B: I. [00:36:46] Speaker E: My brain thought it was the beginning of winter. [00:36:48] Speaker B: So. Yeah. Alright, so Val, cloaking yourself in flame, you jet across the room, smash through this wall of crates, potatoes go everywhere on the other side, which is now revealed and lit by the flames licking Val is a large cauldron built over a fire bubbling with some unknown substance. Books and utensils are strewn around the area, and this. This old woman covered in like furs and robes, her hair all standing on end as if zapped with static electricity, is now furiously patting out the flames that are licking against her clothes as she then reaches up with a clawed hand and will roll for initiative and see what happens next time. [00:37:35] Speaker E: Monster. [00:37:37] Speaker F: I hate books. [00:37:40] Speaker B: Well, since all of our heroes are too heroic to need any more hero cards at this point, I'm going to choose one and burn it forever. [00:37:52] Speaker F: Thank goodness I have the one that. [00:37:54] Speaker C: Automatically reverses failed rules while you turned on the fireplace. [00:38:01] Speaker B: Well, since everybody's full up on hero point cards, I guess we'll just hand out two in the next adventure. Um, I gotta go crank up the difficulty on this encounter and we'll see you all in the next episode. [00:38:16] Speaker E: Gonna make us burn them hero points. [00:38:19] Speaker B: This has been an atomic broadcasting production. Pathfinder, Galarian and the lost omens world setting are copyright of Paizo. More [email protected] music in the show is from Monument Studios collection as well as a assorted artists with some original tracks composed by Jordi Hake. More details in the description. If you enjoyed the show, please remember to share with a friend and we'll look forward to seeing you again next time. [00:38:48] Speaker F: I have a fear of drowning. [00:38:49] Speaker E: Same major fear. [00:38:51] Speaker C: I'm looking forward to it. [00:38:53] Speaker F: Drowning. [00:38:55] Speaker E: It's painful. [00:38:56] Speaker C: Thank you. [00:38:57] Speaker D: Do you have experience? [00:38:58] Speaker F: Yes, it's true. [00:39:00] Speaker C: I almost drowned once too. Anyway.
