A harsh climb composed primarily of tiger and marsh, the land of the Linorm kings is known for its bitter winters and hardy people.
To be a linorm king, you see, a warrior must defeat a linolen in single combat.
Linoles, horrid dragonlike creatures, and worse, each one equipped with a unique horror, some their poison breath, others acid blood, and each the bearer of a dreaded death curse.
Thus it is that the children of the Oldhan are both, led by and aspire to themselves, become great warriors.
The scalds sing of the feats of warriors past, and these tales inspire new heroes of our time.
Our tale, my dear listeners, begins with such heroes.
Spurred by their need for gold, love of adventure, or perhaps their own personal reasons, our heroes begin their saga on a small, unassuming caravan, brought on as hired help for a task considered important by those who have no idea of what will shortly be at stake.
Thus begins our tale of the written and the lost.
[00:02:18] Speaker C: Hello everyone, and welcome to the first episode of our new actual play podcast, the written and the lost. I am so excited that you've all joined us for this wild ride. There's going to be laughs, there's going to be crying. There's going to be feeling really confused about how we're feeling. But before we get into any of that, let's go ahead and go around the table and just introduce the players of this show as we're going on. First up is me. Hello. I am your game master. I am going to be responsible for about 80% of the horrible things that these characters experience. The other 20% will be the fault of the players themselves. I will be in control of creatures, monsters, NPCs, and just generally the world around. As we craft this improvisational story together, I'll be rolling dice, as will any other players that will help to resolve some of the questions of how things play out.
As we go around the table, though, we'll introduce the players who will be bringing our main characters to the table. We'll go around this way and start with you, Sven, being a tall and of nordic descent fellow, how do you feel about playing in a world that's based around nordic worlds.
[00:03:21] Speaker D: I am super excited to bring my character into this. I think it's going to be very interesting.
[00:03:28] Speaker A: I think.
[00:03:29] Speaker C: Why don't you tell us a bit about yourself? Maybe like, two factoids.
[00:03:33] Speaker D: Well, I am an engineer tech, and I work with auto remanufacturing, and I've been a nerd for going on 27 years. Huge Lord of the Rings fan for anyone out there who enjoys that.
Wonderful genre.
[00:03:52] Speaker C: Nice. Well, good to meet you, Sven.
[00:03:59] Speaker E: Who are you?
[00:04:00] Speaker F: Prior to this, this is the first time we're all meeting. We should put that out there.
[00:04:05] Speaker C: Oh, yeah. We've actually never seen each other in person before. Ever. Never even met?
[00:04:09] Speaker D: Not even a little bit.
[00:04:10] Speaker G: Half of us don't work together.
[00:04:13] Speaker H: That's true.
[00:04:14] Speaker C: Yeah. Actually, half of us don't work together.
Going around the table. Next up is Abby. Abby, since you're a person who loves animals in real life, I'm assuming that in the game you're going to be playing a character who hates them.
[00:04:26] Speaker E: No, I love animals both in game and out of game. How dare you?
[00:04:32] Speaker C: Well, why don't you go ahead and give us two factoids about yourself?
[00:04:36] Speaker E: I am technically a zoologist. I work as a keeper for working mainly with big carnivores. So that's fun.
And I've been a nerd since. I don't know. Does Star Trek count?
[00:04:50] Speaker H: Definitely.
[00:04:51] Speaker E: I guess junior high. And then I got into gaming, or tabletop gaming in.
[00:04:57] Speaker C: Yay.
[00:04:59] Speaker E: And I love.
[00:05:00] Speaker C: Ah, yes. With a fresh cup of coffee by our side, we can accomplish miracles. Next up, going around the table. Sam, we agreed beforehand that we wouldn't talk about how you're dressed or what I'm doing. Or what you're doing. Yes, but is there anything you'd like to tell us about yourself?
[00:05:20] Speaker G: Well, my name is Sam. I'm a huge comic book guy. Love them. Have since I was, I guess about ten years ago, actually. Now? Yeah, officially ten years ago. That's great. I just finished up reading some of Hellboy. First time. I can't believe I waited this long. Really good. Now I'm reading the question by Dennis O'Neill. Love it.
I guess I've been a nerd. I've really embraced the nerd. I'm probably when I was about 1516, so about ten years ago.
[00:05:51] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:05:52] Speaker G: Pretty good. I've been excited. We've played. These groups have played together in these tabletop role playing games for a lot. Not necessarily all of us together at once, but separate. I look forward to starting another campaign with all you guys because you guys are great.
[00:06:07] Speaker C: Next up, we've got Jenkins. We'll be referring to you by your surname because there are shared names at this table.
[00:06:14] Speaker F: We have two Michaels. He's sitting right next to me. He's great.
[00:06:17] Speaker G: Hello.
[00:06:20] Speaker F: Some things about me I refuse to tell you about how long I've been a nerd. Y'all can figure that out eventually. And two, I'm the only one here wearing a suit, and I am ashamed. Except for Sam, of course.
[00:06:29] Speaker G: Oh, hey, we don't talk about what I'm wearing.
[00:06:33] Speaker C: All right? And last but not least, we have petite as the tallest among us. Petite? Do you have any wisdom from on high to deliver to us?
[00:06:41] Speaker H: Well, first of all, I don't know if I'm the tallest. I think Sven might be.
[00:06:44] Speaker C: You are the tallest.
[00:06:45] Speaker F: He is.
[00:06:46] Speaker D: By, like, half an inch.
[00:06:47] Speaker H: Okay.
I don't have any knowledge from on high, but I can tell you that I have previously said no to tabletop roleplay before because I had no idea how to play in the beginning, and I still have no idea how to play.
[00:07:08] Speaker F: Nobody ever really knows how to play.
[00:07:10] Speaker C: It's true.
[00:07:12] Speaker H: Even if I do semi understand my characters and the things that they do, it's always a fun thing to learn and get to learn with others.
[00:07:21] Speaker D: Welcome to the table.
[00:07:24] Speaker H: Is that enough factoids? Do you want another factoid? So, Mary Shelley, she was the author of Frankenstein.
[00:07:34] Speaker C: This has been fun facts with Michael Petite.
[00:07:38] Speaker H: I've got in the bag.
[00:07:39] Speaker F: I haven't given a fun fact.
[00:07:41] Speaker C: Well, I was leaving it open in case you wanted to give one next time.
[00:07:44] Speaker F: Fair.
[00:07:45] Speaker C: All right, so that will introduce all of the players at the table. We've got a few other people who help out with things behind the scenes. I do want to give a shout out to Jacob, our tech guy. He's working on the recordings right now, helps out with a lot of the story consulting, and did the awesome recording of that intro voice that kind of introduced you to the world before we got into things.
[00:08:05] Speaker F: If it doesn't sound like Cave Johnson, I'm a riot.
[00:08:10] Speaker C: We'll see.
With all that out of the way, let's go ahead and jump into the story. So you all, as you know, have been hired as members of a caravan heading on your way to the small mining town of Copperbergit. Recently, some miners have broken through the mine into a small cave inside of the mountain that was just filled with something interesting. They saw some details, maybe some inscriptions on the wall. One of them claimed. And they were just like, we're not going in there. We're not taking a look at things. So they hired out of town scholars and experts to come look at things.
You are not these scholars and experts. You are the hired hands to make sure that they get there and back safely.
As we sort of zoom in in a helicopter shot from the sky, we see the peaks of the Kodar mountains, which separate the land of the linorm kings from the southern portions of. We zoom in closer, we see evergreen pine trees and a twisting, winding trail leading up into the mountains. This caravan of mixed and matched people with their wagons drawn by horses. Unfortunately, all but one of them are traveling on foot. It's about mid afternoon, winding through the wilderness in the mountains. And we zoom in closer and closer. And as we come up to this band, we see a wizard, old man with a white beard and a peaked gandalf style hat. And Sven, who is he talking to?
[00:09:44] Speaker D: He is talking to a dwarf, kind of fitted out in a green forestry robe and with kind of half leather gloves with the fingers poking through. But what's interesting about this dwarf is that if you were to catch kind of a look at his face and even on the tips of his fingers, you see scars, large scars that are less carved into his skin, but more like they were just written or placed. And around it is a long white beard and long white hair. And even though he looks old, his eyes just kind of sparkle like he still has that spark of life. He's still young in some sense.
[00:10:34] Speaker C: So as you're having this conversation with this old wizard, whom you know to be named Salazar Wells, what do you think you folks have been talking about, as you've been.
[00:10:45] Speaker D: Oh, Uvair is very interested in these writings that they said they found. Like, what are the origins?
[00:10:53] Speaker H: How old are they?
[00:10:56] Speaker D: What is the composition? Is it complete? Is it not?
[00:11:01] Speaker C: And as you're asking more like these detailed questions about the writing and stuff, the wizard Salazar kind of cuts you off. He's like, oh, my dear boy, we have hardly even seen anything of these. We don't even know if the writings inside the cave are of any import. We just have the testimony of the dwarves who had first broken in. And that is our mission as we go in there to explore and to see what hasn't yet been seen.
[00:11:24] Speaker A: But it is very fascinating. Like these things have been covered up. Yes, they have been covered up for all these years. I think that it might be very important to try and at least see what the writing does and then see the contextual basis of the surroundings. Like there could be more. Are there books, if you go further in, is there writing on the stones? Is there like different scrolls or anything? I think. Oh, that would be very fascinating to look at.
[00:11:53] Speaker C: And Salazar, he's very excited. He's like, well, yes, indeed. But before we go on, what was your character's name?
[00:11:59] Speaker D: My character's name is Uwe Sturkwind.
[00:12:02] Speaker C: Gotcha. Gotcha. So Salazar is like, I agree. I think you are a man after my own mind. Uber, I think we'll get along quite well. Have you ever considered joining the arkanymerium?
[00:12:15] Speaker A: Honestly, it has not crossed my mind.
[00:12:17] Speaker C: I don't have time to listen to all of this bloody academic nonsense. As he's talking, another figure just kind of pushes up. And this is Dolvin Erickson. You met him as this party was heading out. He's like the foreman of this whole operation. He was representing the interests of the dwarves of Copperberg. All right, come on. And he gestures behind him and we'd see a figure following behind him. Petite. Who do we see?
[00:12:43] Speaker H: Well, at first, you do not see much. In fact, this entire time, all you've seen has been just a cloaked figure in black. He's fairly short, he's about 4ft tall, but he almost seems as a shadow. He tends to walk very wispfully. He doesn't really make a lot of noise or what's the word I'm looking for? He doesn't make an appearance much, but you can see that he has nice black pants at the bottom of his cloak with silver pinstripes and he has black, polished, shiny shoes.
But I'm not done yet.
The bottom of his face is visible. It's a pale gray white, almost silver. And his hair pokes from his hood, but seems to shimmer and is.
I don't know what I wrote there, but it doesn't seem to exist. And you know him as Zafir.
[00:13:47] Speaker C: Oh, my God.
[00:13:49] Speaker F: How do you spell that?
[00:13:51] Speaker H: Z E p h e a r.
[00:13:56] Speaker F: I like Zephyr, but with a little bit of flare at the end.
[00:14:00] Speaker H: No, it's spelled like Zephyr.
[00:14:04] Speaker E: I just wrote Zephyr on my.
[00:14:08] Speaker H: And up until now, you haven't really heard him speak at all. He just kind of follows along. He follows Dolvin because he's most familiar with him.
[00:14:19] Speaker C: Dolvin's kind of waving you forward as he's like, trying to push back towards the front of the wagon. You'd kind of fallen back as he was talking to Sophie, one of the skill twins who was bringing up the rear. And now he's trying to push his way back forward to the front, just kind of following along with him. Since the rest of these people are kind of weird.
[00:14:42] Speaker H: I'm going to catch back up to him or try to wistfully move my way towards him, towards the rest of the. I guess the twins at this point.
[00:14:52] Speaker C: Gotcha. Gotcha. As you're moving along through the caravan, Abby, with what we know about your character and the fact that you've probably had enough time to kind of make sure nobody's paying any attention to you, what do you think your character might be up to at this point?
[00:15:10] Speaker E: I don't think she's up to too much right now, to be honest.
[00:15:14] Speaker C: I mean, Salazar is still around.
[00:15:15] Speaker E: Yeah. She's probably behaving more than usual, not getting up to anything.
[00:15:24] Speaker C: Gotcha. What's your character's name?
[00:15:26] Speaker E: Her name is Neros.
[00:15:29] Speaker H: Again, I'm not going to bother asking how to spell it.
[00:15:32] Speaker G: You're not Faros Neros gonna spell like.
[00:15:36] Speaker H: Nero from like the.
[00:15:38] Speaker E: I don't care how you spell it.
[00:15:41] Speaker C: You're the chosen one.
[00:15:42] Speaker E: Oh, I hope not. The world would not be in great hands if she was the chosen one.
[00:15:47] Speaker H: The world's going to burn.
[00:15:48] Speaker F: That's what makes it a good story. You rise up to your mantle.
[00:15:51] Speaker E: Anyway, so you see she's in very beat up, like street clothes. She doesn't take great care of herself.
She is a fetchling. So she has, like, gray skin, and she has, like, silvery, almost white hair. And her eyes kind of match that. There's no pupils, no irises, so it can be kind of ominous.
She almost always looks like she's up to something. Like she has kind of like a mischievous glint in her eyes.
The most notable thing, though, that you would probably notice right away, her hands all the way up to her forearms is completely black, and it kind of fades into the natural gray of her skin color.
[00:16:39] Speaker C: So as you're kind of walking along, minding your own business, behaving yourself, for the most part, yeah. CHatting with Azel Shara from the osirian continent from the south. She's got all sorts of tales of the Mwangi expanse and the desertist reaches of Osiria itself. And as the two of you are chatting about that, the camera might just kind of pan to the side, and we see walking off, probably, I would imagine, in the dead center of the party, equally distant from either of the skill twins. Sam, who do we see?
[00:17:16] Speaker G: We see a human man.
He looks about in his late 40s. He looks like he's really showing his age.
He stands tall, very good posture, almost like a military stance, but he hangs his head down pretty low.
He looks very worn, almost haunted. I guess if you looked at his eyes, that would probably be the vibe you'd get. He wears this old military garb over his breastplate with old faded regalia that probably means something to some people, but for the most part, you probably can't even tell what it was.
His right arm is wrapped up in a rusted chain and he's clutching onto a chalice full of like this pale green water.
He's not very well kept right now. His hair is kind of a mess. His beard isn't really kept well. When he's sort of paying attention again and not kind of zoning out, he's shifting between looking at the skold twins and Sithri, like trying to keep his distance from them.
[00:18:31] Speaker C: Gotcha. And Sithri, of course, is the only member of the party who's riding a horse.
[00:18:35] Speaker F: I do enjoy how you also put down oldest balls.
[00:18:38] Speaker H: I highlighted in a red.
[00:18:40] Speaker F: I can't do that.
[00:18:42] Speaker H: Get on my level.
[00:18:44] Speaker C: So kind of shifting your attention between the twins and Sithris. The twins kind of are studiously watching you whenever they get the opportunity.
Sithri, on the other hand, is completely ignoring you. She is, however, engaged in conversation with the financier of your mission.
[00:19:03] Speaker G: Would you like my name?
[00:19:05] Speaker C: I don't care about your name. She looks away.
[00:19:08] Speaker G: Fine.
[00:19:09] Speaker C: Yeah. No, give us your name.
[00:19:11] Speaker G: My character's name is Hamir.
[00:19:13] Speaker C: Gotcha. Gotcha. And as you're looking back and forth between the twins, they're kind of watching you, side eyeing you, kind of giving you some attention. Sithri is just completely ignoring you. She seems to be more engaged in a very professional conversation with the financier of your mission, Jenkins, would you introduce your character? Yeah.
[00:19:33] Speaker F: So my character's name is Howard Volden.
He is dressed in a three piece neutral toned suit. It's made of a mixture of cloth and leather.
Currently, since he's talking, he's standing around five nine, but when he stands up straight, he's six foot tall. He has gold like hair, silverish eyes, and dotted across his hands, feet, elbows, and behind the ears are like little crystalline moats, sort of around his person.
[00:20:04] Speaker C: Neat. And the conversation between you two is very surface level, very professional, just like. Oh, yes. Well, we'll be going here. The schedule is like this, and nothing terribly interesting or exciting, but as we've gone through that, there's only one person in the group that hasn't been introduced and that's been Bilgo Tarenbor. The only reason he hasn't been introduced is because nobody wants to talk to him.
He's a bit insufferable and kind of just minds his own business. He's just a short little gnome who's just kind of buries his face in books and scrolls as they walk. And if anybody tries to engage him in conversation, he's just like, oh, go away, I'm reading.
And that introduces us to this party as they're traversing this winding forest trail through the mountains. At this point, it's probably mid afternoon. I will mention the intention for this excursion was to leave town first thing in the morning so as to arrive at Copperberg it in time to find room at the inn there. Because Sithri was late, there was like, no chance that you guys are going to make it to Copperberg it on time. So the skill twins ran out and picked up some tents for everyone. And you're planning on camping partway along the journey?
[00:21:27] Speaker H: How many tents are there?
[00:21:29] Speaker C: There's one extra, actually.
[00:21:33] Speaker H: As addition to what?
[00:21:35] Speaker C: To the party. Hold on, let me count.
[00:21:38] Speaker H: So I get my own tent?
[00:21:40] Speaker C: Yes.
[00:21:40] Speaker H: Okay. That's what I was worried about.
[00:21:42] Speaker C: Yeah, they're little pup tents. Okay.
[00:21:43] Speaker H: I didn't want to share with anybody.
[00:21:45] Speaker C: There's 1234-5678 910, 1112. Normal small tents and one huge tent that Sith rebroad with her.
[00:21:54] Speaker H: I will be adding this tent to my inventory.
[00:21:57] Speaker C: Yeah, actually, you guys can probably go ahead and add them. You're responsible for them now.
[00:22:03] Speaker H: This is my tent. I've marked my scent.
Oh, no, I just rubbed it in my pits.
I didn't pee on it or anything, if that's what you're thinking now.
[00:22:16] Speaker F: I am.
[00:22:17] Speaker D: I definitely think Uber is wholly engorged in his conversation with Salazar going on.
[00:22:24] Speaker C: And on about the details of magic and the random research project Salazar has been working on.
[00:22:30] Speaker D: Oh, definitely. Also uver, I am sure, is telling him, adding in things that he's learned in the general area, actually, like some of the local folklore, like who lived.
[00:22:42] Speaker C: Here before and stuff like that, that.
[00:22:44] Speaker D: He'S found or heard of.
[00:22:46] Speaker C: Somewhat to your disappointment, whenever you kind of start going on about local stories and stuff like that, Salazar is just like, not interested and just keeps steering the concept back to pure magic. That's all he cares about.
[00:23:01] Speaker D: I also think that Uvair is going to try and rope in Menbilgo as well every now and again.
[00:23:09] Speaker C: Leave me alone.
[00:23:10] Speaker A: But what do you think about the architecture, the things that you've heard. Do you have any series already?
[00:23:18] Speaker C: He hands you a pamphlet that has like, the books he's written on architecture and where to buy them.
[00:23:30] Speaker H: Dang. Does he get royalties?
[00:23:31] Speaker C: I mean, I get all the money.
[00:23:36] Speaker A: Is any of these available in like the local library or something?
[00:23:41] Speaker C: Any good library worth visiting?
[00:23:45] Speaker A: Well, definitely have to check out your books, but what do you think now?
Any series as you're reading through the descriptions?
[00:23:54] Speaker C: What?
[00:23:55] Speaker A: The descriptions of the cavern. Do you think it is man made? Do you think it was found and then they carved in it? What do you think so far? What was the possibilities?
[00:24:06] Speaker C: I will withhold all opinions until we get there. And then once we do, I will put them down in a book and I will give you an updated flyer.
[00:24:16] Speaker H: That's some fast publishing.
[00:24:21] Speaker A: But I understand.
[00:24:22] Speaker D: That it will fade out because Uvel is just going to try and bring him in, get information.
[00:24:28] Speaker C: Pushing and pushing.
As this all is happening over here, I would imagine Salazar is getting distracted. He's not keeping an eye on anybody else in the caravan, not paying any attention to nothing, just throwing that out there.
[00:24:48] Speaker H: Zafir has set up his tent and gone into the tent.
[00:24:52] Speaker C: Wait, we're not the caravan still moving?
He is on the wagon.
[00:25:02] Speaker G: You can tie it to the horse that sister is riding on. She can just drag your.
[00:25:07] Speaker H: See, I imagined we were stopped.
[00:25:11] Speaker G: Not yet.
[00:25:12] Speaker C: Little pup tint sled right back there.
[00:25:15] Speaker G: We're still moving. We haven't gotten to the stop. Sure.
[00:25:18] Speaker H: Okay, let me retcon that, I guess.
[00:25:21] Speaker E: Okay.
[00:25:22] Speaker H: I don't know, I feel like he's always talking. So it doesn't matter if we're stopped or not, he's just going to keep talking.
Yeah. So he's not in a tent while walking, but he has just kept to himself, I guess, more towards the front of the caravan as he was hurried along. But he's very hard to keep track of.
Just kind of moving along without giving eye to anyone else, just trying to get to where he's going.
So don't talk to me.
[00:25:56] Speaker F: You're talking.
[00:25:59] Speaker H: Just giving you a description. Obviously I can't be in a tent.
[00:26:05] Speaker C: Don't worry, your time will come.
[00:26:07] Speaker A: I will be in that tent.
[00:26:08] Speaker C: We stop.
[00:26:09] Speaker A: I'm in the tent.
[00:26:10] Speaker H: Roll to tent.
[00:26:12] Speaker E: Roll to tent.

[00:26:20] Speaker E: Okay, so Neros is kind of looking around, she sees Salazar is not paying attention to her, and she kind of walks up behind the horse, makes sure sit three is not paying attention.
And she takes a piece of paper out of nowhere from her satchel and writes something on it and see her scrawling away, looks over, makes sure Salazar is not still not paying attention, even though he'll probably see it and know exactly who did it. And she tapes or tapes. Can you tape things in Pathfinder pin.
[00:27:05] Speaker H: Pulls the gum out of her mouth.
I'm sure he would notice a pin.
[00:27:10] Speaker F: I would assume they have glue.
[00:27:12] Speaker C: Yeah, there's adhesives.
[00:27:13] Speaker E: All right.
Sure. She has glue. And she glues to the horse's rear this piece of paper with an arrow pointed up at the rider. It says, kick me.
[00:27:30] Speaker F: I think I'm superior animal safe glue, I'd hope.
[00:27:33] Speaker E: Sure.
[00:27:36] Speaker C: It's not very strong stuff. They don't have strong adhesives.
[00:27:38] Speaker H: From what I know about glue and horses, I don't want to.
[00:27:42] Speaker F: Oh, no.
Does my character notice this at all?
[00:27:47] Speaker C: Good question. Hey, Abby, can you make me either a stealth or a thievery check which will be the first role of this new campaign? Aside from all of the prelude episodes, we did.
[00:27:58] Speaker E: Well, both suck. So here we go.
It's a natural five plus one, six.
[00:28:07] Speaker C: So as you go up to adhere this sign to the horse, you go to put it on, and the horse flicks its tail just at the right moment, and it flicks the paper out of your hand and just kind of flutters up in between Albert and sissery as they're talking text facing towards Albert.
[00:28:26] Speaker F: Once I see the text, can I have my mage hand just grab it, crumple it up, and then put it in my.
[00:28:35] Speaker C: Hmm. You definitely can.
[00:28:37] Speaker F: Okay.
[00:28:38] Speaker C: Are you wanting to do that in such a way as, like, to not let Sithri notice you're doing it?
[00:28:44] Speaker F: I don't think.
Yes, but it would be in a frantic motion where I don't want her to notice. But I'm casting mage hand, so she's going to notice.
[00:29:00] Speaker C: Yeah. So she's definitely going to notice that you're casting mage hand. My question is more, are you doing it in such a way as to try to play it off as just like, oh, let me grab that garbage.
[00:29:10] Speaker F: Let me grab that.
[00:29:11] Speaker C: Got you. Okay. Got you. So you just wave it up. And that's not too hard to just be like, okay, get that out of there.
You see this happen? You see him grab the parchment.
[00:29:27] Speaker E: She quickly walks, or, like, verges somewhere else that's not next to the. That's natural. Nothing happened that did not go as planned.
[00:29:38] Speaker H: From the vantage point in the front, Zafiro kind of just turns, looks and just slightly chuckles. You can kind of see a smile on his face if you were looking at him.
[00:29:49] Speaker C: Where does this paper end up, by the way?
[00:29:50] Speaker F: In my backpack.
[00:29:51] Speaker C: Okay. I wasn't sure if it was a crumple and toss him in.
[00:29:54] Speaker F: No, it was a crumple and put it in backpack.
[00:29:56] Speaker C: Okay. Gotcha.
[00:29:56] Speaker H: I bet you have a lot of paper in there.
[00:29:58] Speaker F: I don't, actually.
[00:30:00] Speaker D: I should do over. And Salazar notice this?
[00:30:05] Speaker C: I would imagine not. Especially because where we started, it was like, Salazar is not paying attention. I'd imagine you're probably engaged in something really interesting at that point, so probably not.
[00:30:15] Speaker A: That makes sense.
[00:30:17] Speaker G: I was just thinking about the fact that she critically fails against my DC. So I'm fairly certain most people see or at least are aware of it.
[00:30:26] Speaker C: Pretty much anybody.
[00:30:27] Speaker G: It's just up to whether or not they care to look over.
[00:30:30] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:30:31] Speaker G: Which is her main concern.
[00:30:33] Speaker E: Did Salazar see and he did not, which is important.
[00:30:38] Speaker C: I like everybody, but Salazar and Uber saw men. Bilgo just like, looked up like.
I suppose that means Sithri saw, but she doesn't seem to have reacted. She doesn't care.
[00:30:56] Speaker E: She's not facing the right way.
[00:30:58] Speaker G: She heard it facing in Pathfinder.
[00:31:03] Speaker F: Thankfully, she's literally behind the horse.
[00:31:06] Speaker E: Sithri would have to go.
[00:31:08] Speaker H: She blinked.
[00:31:09] Speaker C: Abby just demonstrated turning around while sitting horseback.
[00:31:13] Speaker F: She saw the paper. At that minimum, she blinked. Yeah. I'm not saying that as best as she could.
[00:31:22] Speaker C: As the group is journeying on and heading closer to their destination, the sun is beginning to set. The foothills of the Kodar mountains that you're traveling through run along, like east to west, west to east. So the sun kind of just, is just setting along the ridge of the mountains. But it's beginning to dip down behind the trees and it's starting to get dark and roundabouts. Time to get your camp set up. The skill twins with the practiced expertise of rangers just set up their own personal tents and begin setting off, looking for wood and such to build a fire. I imagine all of you set up your tents. Most notably, I have set up my tent. Zafir's tent was up before the twins were even started.
[00:32:05] Speaker H: I will tent roll. It's a 17. I don't think there's anything to add.
[00:32:12] Speaker G: To it, survive on it.
[00:32:13] Speaker C: A natural tent.
[00:32:14] Speaker H: My survival is a zero.
[00:32:16] Speaker F: A natural tentie.
[00:32:20] Speaker H: I go in my tent and I do not reappear.
[00:32:24] Speaker F: I knock down his tent.
I wouldn't do that.
[00:32:29] Speaker H: My tent has an ac of 38.
[00:32:31] Speaker F: Oh.
[00:32:33] Speaker H: Using my hands.
[00:32:34] Speaker G: That's a little cold.
[00:32:36] Speaker C: Celsius.
[00:32:41] Speaker F: That's pretty hot.
[00:32:45] Speaker H: Okay.
Does this world of ours work in Fahrenheit? Or Celsius or Kelvin or Kelpin?
[00:32:55] Speaker C: Oh, gosh, my temp is gone.
[00:33:03] Speaker F: That's very cold.
[00:33:04] Speaker H: It's froze and just shattered.
[00:33:08] Speaker C: So, as these tents are arranged, Sithri sets up her tent. Well, she sets up her tent. Maybe other people help her do it, but her tent ends up getting set up. But everybody else kind of sets up their tent in, like, a rough semicircle. The skill twins come back and they get a fire going. Is there anything else anybody wants to do here at the campsite before the end of the night?
[00:33:30] Speaker F: So, once everyone's tent set up and the fire is made, I'm just going to walk up to Neros and hand her the crumpled up paper and be like, I think this belongs to you.
[00:33:40] Speaker E: Right? Well.
[00:33:45] Speaker F: I don't really like her either, but maybe. Don't be so rude. She is one of the representatives of the. We're hired to protect her.
[00:33:54] Speaker C: Don't.
[00:33:55] Speaker E: Oh, I know. I mean, she could walk around without the stick of up a butt.
[00:34:02] Speaker F: That's not going to happen.
[00:34:07] Speaker E: Can always try.
[00:34:09] Speaker F: Well, I don't think being rude is the way to make that happen.
[00:34:14] Speaker E: I didn't think it was stating the obvious.
[00:34:17] Speaker C: I mean.
[00:34:19] Speaker F: Yes.
I'm going to go now. I'm sorry.
[00:34:26] Speaker E: All right, bye.
[00:34:28] Speaker C: So, as the evening continues on, night has fallen. You're all probably gathered around the fire, cooking up some warming up some food. Just the lightest of snowfalls begins. It's kind of nice, kind of cozy, not super cold. It's more of like, the snowfall where it's like, when it hits the ground, maybe a little bit will collect and it's going to melt. Normal weather for March, as it is here at the beginning of the spring season in the land of Lin Arm Kings.
And as the night wears on, there's some tense conversation, some pleasant conversation. The scholars kind of chat a little bit. Scythri calculatedly ignores everyone. Dolvin makes everyone uncomfortable with his minor's humor. And night gets later.
Not children's humor.
Humor from people who work in mines could be the same thing. We all know how those miners are.
[00:35:25] Speaker F: Guys, look at this.
[00:35:27] Speaker C: There goes all of our listenings from miners.
[00:35:29] Speaker G: Have you seen my new game boy?
[00:35:32] Speaker F: What's that?
[00:35:34] Speaker C: I'm going to go play on my Nintendo.
As all of this kind of dies down, as the evening's wearing on, everyone heads towards their respective tents until it's just the five of you sitting around.
[00:35:47] Speaker H: The campfire.
[00:35:53] Speaker C: The four of you and your boss.
[00:35:56] Speaker H: Wait, he's our boss?
[00:35:59] Speaker F: I hired all of.
[00:36:01] Speaker H: Well, I didn't know that.
[00:36:02] Speaker E: Salazar hired me.
[00:36:04] Speaker F: Salazar put in the word to have you hired.
[00:36:08] Speaker C: Now, you all work for Jenkins.
[00:36:12] Speaker A: So I have to ask. I have wondered how long this contract is going to last. Just curious. I really don't care if it lasts too long, too short. I've been around a long time.
[00:36:25] Speaker C: Do you have anything better to do?
[00:36:27] Speaker A: Do I have anything better to do? As in, what do you mean?
[00:36:30] Speaker H: You took the job, you get the job done.
[00:36:32] Speaker A: No, that's also what I meant. I don't care how long it takes. I just want to know. I'm very curious. Because, you see, if it takes a long time, that possibly means we can explore more and that there's more to learn. Or if it's a very short time, in which case, perhaps I should start lining up where I want to go next. I do have some things I want to go check out, but I think I want.
[00:36:50] Speaker C: Could we leave him there?
[00:36:52] Speaker E: I was going to say, do you have a brief sentences?
[00:36:56] Speaker F: Unless he dies.
Oh, I should probably make note, the companies don't have any insurance for your death. I'm sorry about that. I couldn't get that in. So if you die, we're leaving you in the mine.
[00:37:10] Speaker E: Oh, great.
[00:37:11] Speaker H: Yeah, I don't plan on dying.
[00:37:13] Speaker F: Okay. Don't.
Yeah, I mean, it means more money for everyone else if somebody dies, I guess.
Anyway, like he said, until the job is done. I can get your contract out if you want.
[00:37:34] Speaker A: No, it's okay. As long as I just want to study the artifacts of time.
[00:37:39] Speaker F: I'm honestly shocked about how quick you signed it. I put a piece of paper in front of you. You said one thing, I added it, and then you signed it. It was weird.
[00:37:48] Speaker A: No, honesty, I really didn't even.
[00:37:50] Speaker F: He read his contract, and I signed him on two days ago.
[00:37:55] Speaker C: I point at him here 10 hours ago.
[00:37:58] Speaker F: Oh, my bad. 10 hours ago.
[00:38:01] Speaker A: It's not that I didn't read it. I thought a little bit to highlight it. It really wasn't all that important.
[00:38:07] Speaker G: I think it's safe to say we all have different reasons for signing.
[00:38:13] Speaker F: I would assume so.
[00:38:15] Speaker G: And his. His didn't need much of a reason at all.
[00:38:19] Speaker F: It's just sad.
Do none of you read contracts except for him?
[00:38:26] Speaker H: I mean, once you mention money, it's.
[00:38:28] Speaker C: Kind of out of the question.
[00:38:29] Speaker F: Oh, none of you need to go to Chalihax.
[00:38:34] Speaker A: It is a very interesting place. But anyway, like, I said the contract wasn't really the driving factor for me coming here.
[00:38:46] Speaker F: I mean, it's the only reason why you're allowed to come here.
[00:38:50] Speaker A: That's why I signed it.
[00:38:52] Speaker F: I suppose that's fair.
[00:38:54] Speaker C: Trust me, if I wanted to come here, it wouldn't matter if I was allowed or not.
[00:38:58] Speaker F: I'm going to scoot a little bit away from you now.
[00:39:02] Speaker H: No room for me at this point.
[00:39:10] Speaker F: Zafir.
[00:39:11] Speaker H: You can see he's pulling his hands out at the fire warming.
And you can see that now that they're out of his cloak. You can see his long, silver formal shirt, but his hands are just as pale white as the rest of his bottom face. But he's still holding his hood up. Kind of bundled. But you now have that picture of white hands.
[00:39:37] Speaker F: I misheard you.
No. It's like I now have a picture of white hands.
[00:39:47] Speaker H: As I have images of hands on my person.
[00:39:53] Speaker D: Not 38 Kelvin.
[00:39:57] Speaker H: I don't have 38 kelvins on my person.
[00:40:00] Speaker F: That's a lot of Kelvin.
[00:40:02] Speaker D: Well, cold white hands, but not 38 Kelvin.
[00:40:06] Speaker H: Exactly. Not that cold.
[00:40:08] Speaker C: Speaking of cold and the night and the fire, it is starting to get late.
You guys might want to go over your arrangements for the night watches.
[00:40:18] Speaker F: Right, so I'll take the first watch, if that's okay with everyone. I don't care about anything else.
[00:40:25] Speaker A: I guess I can take the second watch. That is not a problem for me.
[00:40:29] Speaker C: How long are we talking?
[00:40:30] Speaker H: I need my rest.
[00:40:32] Speaker F: Well, you will get your rest. That's not in the question. But you need to have a watch.
[00:40:38] Speaker C: Okay, I guess I'll go third. They're two hour watches.
[00:40:45] Speaker H: Zafir decides to go third.
[00:40:47] Speaker A: See what I did there?
[00:40:48] Speaker F: So we have one. I'm going first, and then Uvair's going second, Zafir's going third. That just leaves Hamir in Neros to decide.
[00:41:03] Speaker E: I don't care.
[00:41:04] Speaker G: I'll just take the fourth then.
[00:41:10] Speaker F: All right, that leaves Nero with the last.
I know. I'm just stating.
[00:41:17] Speaker H: Do I get to wake him up?
[00:41:19] Speaker F: Yes.
[00:41:21] Speaker G: If you touch me, you'll lose your finger.
[00:41:24] Speaker C: Oh, don't worry. Hey, Mir. You won't even see.
[00:41:28] Speaker F: You're not contractually allowed to harm us on purpose.
You signed it, you read it, and you signed it.
[00:41:38] Speaker G: Then they shouldn't give me reason to.
[00:41:41] Speaker F: He's just waking you up.
[00:41:45] Speaker C: So, with our order of watches, the group all heads out to bed, except for, of course, Alward, who remains up by the fire keeping watch.
And I will roll a D six. A six will be a reroll.
Oh, that's not a six. It's a four.
Hamir, you had the fourth watch, is that right? Yes. So the night passes rather uneventfully between the first few watches.
I imagine Alward respectfully wakes up for the second watch. Yeah.
[00:42:22] Speaker F: So when I go to Uvair's tent, I jostle him with my mage hand, and I speak in Dwarvish. It's time to get up now. Come on.
[00:42:35] Speaker A: It is fine. I don't like so much shaking.
It is time for my watch.
[00:42:40] Speaker F: Yes, again, all in Dwarvish. I just haven't stopped.
[00:42:46] Speaker A: That is fine. That is fine also. That is very good. Very good. I did not know.
[00:42:50] Speaker C: Thank you. Yes.
[00:42:51] Speaker F: No, I speak a lot of different languages, even a little bit of tn every now and again.
[00:42:56] Speaker A: Truly, truly. This is very fascinating. You must compare notes. Anyway, it is time for my watch. You go to sleep.
[00:43:04] Speaker C: Okay?
So in the sake of moving things along, I'm going to roll things forward. But in the interest of payout on earlier foreshadowing. Petite. How does Zafir wake up?
[00:43:18] Speaker H: So Zafir slightly just creeps in, pokes his head into Hamir's tent, and he uses message to whisper in his ear.
[00:43:32] Speaker C: That's so creepy.
[00:43:42] Speaker H: And then he just creeps away.
[00:43:49] Speaker G: Sort of starts waking up and hearing something like that. A foreign voice yelling in his mind.
Doesn't faze him at all. And he seems like the kind of guy who might be used to that sort of thing.
[00:44:01] Speaker H: Well, technically, message acts as if it's whispering in your ear, so it wouldn't be in your mind. But it's like I was standing right.
[00:44:08] Speaker G: Next to you, I guess, his arm. But she whack you if you were there. And he's like.
[00:44:13] Speaker H: And just so you know, if you don't come out within the next, like, 30 seconds, it happens again.
[00:44:18] Speaker G: He's going. He's going.
All right, you can go to bed now.
[00:44:24] Speaker H: You don't even see me. I'm already gone.
[00:44:27] Speaker C: Sweet, sweet tent.
[00:44:28] Speaker F: He never left his tent.
[00:44:32] Speaker H: He's watching through holes in the side.
[00:44:35] Speaker G: Amir sort of sighs, looks over to his side like he's talking to someone, is like, he's going to be a problem, I imagine. And then walks over to the fire.
[00:44:49] Speaker C: And as the night goes on, the snowfall is kind of cozy and comforting. It's quiet. You hear occasionally, like an owl flutter by a mouse in the leaves. Nothing much of interest happens until you suddenly hear the sound of one of the crates from one of the wagons jostling. And just as you're looking over, you see just in time as the crate tumbles out of the wagon and smashes on the ground next to it. And that is, where will we end this episode?
[00:45:20] Speaker F: Not fair.
[00:45:23] Speaker C: So one thing that we are going to do at the end of every episode, before we say goodbye to our lovely fans and listeners, we're going to award one player with an additional hero point. Now, hero points are a metacurrency you can use in this game. You can either turn them in for a reroll at some point. If you get something and you're know you roll for a check and you fail, you can turn in your hero point to reroll it. We're also using a deck of cards we purchased from pizzo. That is the hero point deck. Each card has a unique effect that you can use instead of a reroll. You can pay that card to get that effect. [00:46:17] Speaker H: I second that motion.
[00:46:19] Speaker C: So, Abby, I hereby present you with a hero point. Abby, what does your new hero point you've earned do?
[00:46:27] Speaker E: It's called press on play. At the start of your turn, until the end of your turn, ignore penalties to checks and DCs from conditions.
[00:46:37] Speaker C: Nice. Abby, would you like to give us an acceptance speech for this hero point?
[00:46:41] Speaker E: Yes. Thank you so much for rewarding bad behavior.
