Episode Transcript
[00:00:05] Speaker A: You are listening to an atomic broadcasting production. So sit back, relax and enjoy the feature presentation. And remember, do your part. Such as like comment rate and don't forget to tell a friend to tune in for an atomic time.
[00:00:32] Speaker B: Now, where did we leave off?
[00:00:35] Speaker A: Ah, yes.
[00:00:38] Speaker B: After finishing their business in the Citadel of Tar Kazmuk, Val and Uver bid Delilah farewell and took the teleport back to the city of Kalsgard.
I was complaining about that last night.
Abby and I were watching a Star Trek episode and we got to the end and I was like, did we just really finish an episode? And nobody brought up that this one character was like, yes, I was there 100 years ago. My aging was slowed so I could complete my mission. And they just kill this character. And they're just like, boy, it's so sad we had to kill them. And I'm like, can we stop and address the fact that we just brought up the fact that we have anti aging technology in the world building now?
[00:01:24] Speaker C: Only if you have a mission you have to complete.
[00:01:26] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:01:27] Speaker B: I was so expecting her to just be like them. Like, how did you. How are you still around? And her be like, I was there that day and I swore an oath I wouldn't die.
[00:01:38] Speaker C: You're one paladin in all of Star Trek.
[00:01:42] Speaker A: That's hilarious.
I, I do enjoy sci fi or other. Other worlds that have anti aging Warhammer with a D rejuvenation treatments.
Honestly, that's the only one that I know that has an actual name that's applied to it.
[00:02:00] Speaker C: Aside from just. Yeah, we just did some stuff.
[00:02:03] Speaker A: People are old. We're just not aging as quickly. Apparently in Star Trek they don't. They have the technology and it's so common that they don't even, you know, mention it except for once.
[00:02:14] Speaker B: Well, it was treated like it was this crazy thing. When they found out about it, they were like, wait, how is this possible? That picture was taken 53 years ago. And then they go and confront her and she's like, it's true. And then they're just like, okay, I know.
[00:02:31] Speaker A: Here's the other thing. There was an episode in Next Generation where they found a capsule sent from Old Earth where they had just frozen themselves in stasis and cryo and they all had like degenerative heart disease and some of them had just, you know, terminal illnesses. And they're like, well, we can just, you know, dethaw them and cure them now and then they're alive. So it actually worked because that was the whole experiment. I'm like, wait, what?
That's normal.
[00:03:07] Speaker C: I really like on topic of living longer is like you mentioned cryofree is things like the Alien franchise where it's like, go on this job. It'll take a couple years, but I'll be awake for like a week of it and I'm not going to age. And like between alien and aliens, she's in cryo for like 55 years or so. Comes out, she's normal, and her child is an old lady who passed away recently.
Like, I really enjoy the world building that comes with that kind of work where you're out in cryo all the time. It's like time is passing a lot and you are not there and things are changing.
[00:03:41] Speaker A: I think the best rendition of cryo that I have seen, and I know we've already brought up this topic, but it was actually in Stargate.
[00:03:53] Speaker C: I love Stargate.
[00:03:54] Speaker A: I know it was in Stargate Atlantis where.
[00:03:57] Speaker C: Any Atlantis.
[00:03:59] Speaker A: Oh, worth it. But it deals with the. If you know anything about Stargate. If you don't, I'm sorry, but you should.
The Ancients. The Ancients. Technology.
Where I forget her name.
Anyway, she was the director of the Atlantean expedition and she got sent back in time to when the Ancients were there and right before they evacuated.
Because if you spoilers.
Well, then they explained that happened because she had stayed behind.
And when they. Because they eventually, when they're exploring the rest of the city because it's a big city, they found her in stasis and she's just an old, old woman, but she's basically becoming in and out of stasis to.
But she aged like she was.
[00:04:53] Speaker C: She didn't last like a week at a time or something.
[00:04:56] Speaker A: Yeah. Or like very, very slowly. They. They do a good job in different episodes of addressing that even though you're in stasis, you are still aging.
And there will come a point where if you come out of stasis, you'll just die because you're too old.
[00:05:13] Speaker C: Turn the dust.
[00:05:14] Speaker A: Yeah, something like that.
So I like how they do that. It's like, it's not an actual pause. You're not like just permanently in stasis. No. You're. You're just slowed. Very, very, very slow aging.
[00:05:28] Speaker C: Yeah. Man.
Old people, right?
[00:05:32] Speaker A: What?
Old people.
[00:05:36] Speaker C: People just want to be old people, you know, they just want to be old. People just want to be old.
[00:05:42] Speaker A: I want to be old. I want all the aches and pains that come with age.
[00:05:47] Speaker C: They want to be old without being old.
[00:05:50] Speaker A: Oh, yeah.
[00:05:51] Speaker C: Everyone Wants to be old without being old.
[00:05:53] Speaker A: I mean, that's why I play a 300 year old dwarf.
[00:05:56] Speaker B: We, we live the fantasies that we want in the game. That's why I am the entire world. Because I've always fantasized about being everybody.
[00:06:06] Speaker C: I just wish I was everyone right now.
[00:06:09] Speaker A: I just wish I could be everything.
[00:06:11] Speaker B: Living out my dream, leading a cult and trying to take over the kingdom.
[00:06:18] Speaker C: Listen, there's reason Geordi's running the game.
[00:06:20] Speaker A: Geordi wants to be a calamity that destroys the world.
[00:06:24] Speaker B: It is the masculine dream,
[00:06:28] Speaker C: the masculine urge to become a calamity that destroys the world. That would explain a lot about certain things.
[00:06:35] Speaker A: Does that mean all of us down here have hero complexes? Yes.
[00:06:41] Speaker C: Huh. I'm not gonna dive into what my characters say about me.
I wish I could play music.
All my characters have music.
I'm not good at it.
[00:06:53] Speaker A: I do. I, I want to learn the guitar.
[00:06:57] Speaker C: I played it for a little bit. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I took some guitar lessons. Power chords so I can learn how to play bass.
[00:07:05] Speaker A: Ah. You strike me as a bass player.
[00:07:08] Speaker C: What was with the eyebrow raise looking at Jordy?
[00:07:12] Speaker B: I'm like, were you talking to Sam or were you talking to me?
[00:07:17] Speaker A: I was totally just talking to Sam. Jordy. Wink, wink.
[00:07:20] Speaker C: The way you looked at me Looked away from me seem.
[00:07:24] Speaker B: This is an audio format. I assumed you were talking to Sam, but then I looked over and you were looking at me.
[00:07:29] Speaker A: Wait.
Well, you know them bass players.
[00:07:36] Speaker B: If we have any bass players listening. I'm sorry.
[00:07:41] Speaker A: You know, in all honesty, I like bass players. I, I, I like bass in general.
Probably because I am one, but, you know.
[00:07:49] Speaker C: Oh, I can play you.
[00:07:54] Speaker B: Speaking of play,
[00:07:58] Speaker C: I will be playing the role of Sven today.
[00:08:02] Speaker B: All right, I want you two to switch character sheets.
For the audience's benefit. Sam just started flailing wildly.
We are going to jump back into the world as reality itself reappears once again around you as you egg the teleportation circle back in the familiar surroundings of Kalsgaard.
[00:08:29] Speaker C: You say familiar. We were here, like for five minutes.
[00:08:32] Speaker B: Kalsgard itself is probably less familiar to Val than it is to Uvere. But the land of the Linnorm Kings is more familiar to Val than an underground Dwarven settlement.
[00:08:43] Speaker C: Fair point.
[00:08:44] Speaker A: Is that screwball teleportation circle operator still there?
[00:08:49] Speaker B: No, it's actually a totally different person.
It's an elf who's wearing, like, a scarlet gown.
[00:08:57] Speaker A: Is that significant for some reason?
[00:08:59] Speaker B: I don't know. Does it stand out to you?
[00:09:01] Speaker C: The place of people in the other one were blue. This one's red.
[00:09:05] Speaker A: Are there any other scarlet colored uniforms? No.
Then yes, it does sound somewhat significant.
[00:09:14] Speaker B: She looks up and is like, welcome back. Can I see your papers?
[00:09:18] Speaker A: Oh.
I hand her my papers.
[00:09:20] Speaker B: She looks them over.
Everything seems to be in order. I hope you had a pleasant and productive trip. She stamps the papers and hands them back to you.
[00:09:30] Speaker D: I guess we're just gonna move on from that.
[00:09:33] Speaker C: Yeah, I don't know what else to do.
[00:09:36] Speaker D: Do you have the papers for Sigurd?
[00:09:38] Speaker C: Yes, it's right there. If you turn the paper around.
[00:09:41] Speaker B: Oh, yes, subsection B.
[00:09:43] Speaker C: We've wrote it on there.
Pencil.
[00:09:45] Speaker B: She pencils in an outline of the stamp.
[00:09:50] Speaker C: Thank you.
[00:09:52] Speaker B: Have a good day. And then she turns back to looking really bored at her desk.
[00:09:57] Speaker C: This is Karlsgard, right?
[00:09:58] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:09:59] Speaker C: Okay, thank you.
[00:10:01] Speaker B: I thought you were asking.
She says yes.
[00:10:07] Speaker C: Oh, man. You never know when you go through teleportation circles.
[00:10:11] Speaker A: The time change
[00:10:14] Speaker B: there would be. I think Kal's guard is like two hours later than Tarkasmuk.
[00:10:20] Speaker C: Oh, it's already getting dark.
[00:10:23] Speaker D: We should find an inn for the night.
[00:10:25] Speaker C: That sounds good.
[00:10:26] Speaker A: Yeah.
Uvair's gonna find an inn that he's familiar with.
And in the course of it, he'll pay for a couple rooms.
Before Val.
Oh, no,
[00:10:44] Speaker C: before Val.
[00:10:46] Speaker B: So Uvair, you go to in that you're familiar with the nice pistachio, and you book a room for yourself and one for Val.
[00:10:58] Speaker C: This is nice.
[00:11:00] Speaker B: And a gnome standing at your elbow goes.
You can't even get it out. A gnome standing at your elbow says pistachio.
[00:11:13] Speaker C: Why doesn't anyone ever say the full name?
[00:11:17] Speaker A: It's nice Pistachio. Can't you read?
[00:11:20] Speaker C: I was using it as a description, not. I was not saying the name of it. It looks nice.
[00:11:25] Speaker D: Oh, well, thank you.
[00:11:27] Speaker C: Yeah, you're welcome.
[00:11:29] Speaker B: It's my favorite inn to visit and I'm just really touchy about it. And he goes back to his table.
[00:11:34] Speaker C: I wonder what they.
I wonder what they serve here.
Two almonds, please.
[00:11:48] Speaker B: Two almonds.
There's a dark bearded man across the counter and he puts. He slams two almonds down on the table and slides them over, one finger on each.
[00:12:02] Speaker C: So do you want to get dinner over here?
[00:12:06] Speaker D: You'd be surprised. Those two almonds are very filling.
Most people only eat one.
[00:12:13] Speaker C: Interesting.
So that booth looks nice. Let's sit over there.
[00:12:21] Speaker A: I'm sorry, I just had the thought of.
You grab one of the almonds and it grows to the size of a dinner plate.
[00:12:30] Speaker C: Just Drop a little water on it.
[00:12:31] Speaker A: Just drop a little dehydrated almond.
[00:12:35] Speaker C: You'd think it's a regular almond, but it's actually dehydrated. If you put water on it, it's gonna grow, like, 10 times its size.
[00:12:44] Speaker A: It's a specialty to this animal.
[00:12:47] Speaker B: That's what makes the pistachios so nice. They don't do that.
[00:12:50] Speaker C: The pistachios are just normal. Everything else is weird.
[00:12:55] Speaker A: Everybody looks at you weirdly. If you drop almond water on your
[00:12:58] Speaker C: pistachios, do not just toss this almond into your mouth, because it will expand.
[00:13:03] Speaker B: Are those pistachios too spicy for you?
[00:13:06] Speaker C: What is this, like a jalapeno? Pistachio, please.
[00:13:11] Speaker B: We got all sorts of flavors of pistachio. What flavor do you want?
We got jalapeno, we got bacon, we
[00:13:18] Speaker C: got chocolate, chocolate, ghost pepper.
[00:13:21] Speaker B: Oh, that's a risky one. But here you go. And he slides you a little paper cup full of bright white powdered pistachio.
[00:13:30] Speaker C: Ooh, there. Why? Why did we come here?
[00:13:37] Speaker A: I don't know.
[00:13:38] Speaker C: I thought we were coming. I thought we were coming here for a nice little touching roleplay moment. And we're talking about pistachios and almonds, and it's really hard to get into a serious conversation right now.
[00:13:51] Speaker B: I'll give you two some space. And he gives you a glass of water each. He looks at Val, looks at the cup of pistachios and sets down a glass of milk and walks away.
[00:14:01] Speaker C: Mock test intolerant.
[00:14:03] Speaker A: I want it. Let it be known I am not responsible at all.
[00:14:09] Speaker B: I would presume that Uwe is a fan of this place because they're cheap but comfortable beds.
[00:14:15] Speaker A: Exactly.
[00:14:17] Speaker B: One does not come to the nice pistachio to eat.
[00:14:20] Speaker C: I was hoping for a dinner, but that's this side.
[00:14:26] Speaker A: Uvair orders a relatively normal meal that you would find at the tavern on a subsection of the actual menu, some beef stew and a little bit of broth on the side.
And after showing Val the little submenu, he goes and finds a booth.
And with a slight touch to the staff on his back, a book appears
[00:14:58] Speaker D: in front of him.
[00:15:01] Speaker A: And on the face we read Temporal Mechanics.
And on the inside page, written by Uwehr Sterkvind.
[00:15:13] Speaker B: And he starts reading without spending too much time to really give the book a good, like, thorough read. You know, maybe starting at the beginning, skimming ahead a little bit, you get the sense that this is a treatise on theoretical temporal mechanics, that it hasn't really outlined a practical and proven way to Manipulate the time stream. But has several different theories on how time might work. And some of them strike you as eerily similar to what you've experienced with Alward
[00:15:50] Speaker A: Val. By the time you probably get back to the booth, or at least by the time the food is served, you've noticed Uver is already two thirds of the way through the book.
He's a fast reader.
[00:16:03] Speaker C: Must be those temporal mechanics.
Are you figuring anything out from that?
[00:16:11] Speaker D: What?
[00:16:12] Speaker A: And he looks up, clearly distracted.
[00:16:16] Speaker D: I'm sorry, what?
[00:16:19] Speaker C: The book. Are you figuring anything out? I know you seemed really confused about it.
Time stuff.
[00:16:27] Speaker D: It's because I don't remember writing it.
[00:16:29] Speaker A: Well,
[00:16:32] Speaker C: I understand that would be tricky.
[00:16:36] Speaker D: I don't remember any of this. Nothing that it is written on these pages is even remotely familiar. But even though it is just theory and speculation, I recognize aspects that I have seen with my own eyes.
Particularly with outward.
[00:17:02] Speaker C: That would make sense. Yeah.
[00:17:04] Speaker D: But why would I forget writing this book when I remember writing so many others at the same time?
[00:17:13] Speaker C: We still don't know the exact nature of your memory loss.
There might have been something related to that that was wiped out. Maybe it's like a subject was erased and this falls under that what was happening at the time.
Or something in there maybe might trigger something. You know,
[00:17:32] Speaker A: Fergus's distant look and not
[00:17:37] Speaker D: slowly of perhaps removed.
A specific removal could perhaps explain that.
But why?
And.
[00:17:52] Speaker A: And. And it's. It's almost as if he. He tried to grasp at a conclusion. Anyway. It was. It was right there. It was.
[00:18:02] Speaker D: But he.
[00:18:02] Speaker A: He can't fully latch on to it and it goes away. And you just see a look of frustration.
And then
[00:18:13] Speaker D: he just closes the book
[00:18:15] Speaker A: and it disappears back into the staff.
And he starts eating his now probably lukewarm stew.
And he just has this troubled air about him.
This is genuinely bothering him. But it can't. It's not as if the book itself that he forgot that he wrote the book. But as something else is just genuinely bothering him.
[00:18:47] Speaker C: Remind me, do we have any leads on anything related to the memories or the runes?
[00:18:55] Speaker D: There theories only.
Nothing definite.
But there is a line that I might try to pursue.
Perhaps.
[00:19:13] Speaker C: Well, I mean a line's a good idea. Something to work off of. What's going. What you got there?
[00:19:21] Speaker D: I need to think on it more Val. Before I make anything speculation for sure. But what did you think of my hometown?
[00:19:39] Speaker C: It was nice. I really liked all the architecture you showed off.
It was really amazing. Very beautiful.
Crazy stuff that I could only have read in my.
My textbooks. The Sheldon Books, and so it's great to really see it all in person.
The people were all really nice. Delilah was cool.
[00:20:04] Speaker D: It is one of the wonders of the world. A marvel of craftsmanship. I.
I am glad to hear that you enjoyed your time.
[00:20:17] Speaker C: Yeah, it's not all the time that we really get to take that sort of time to actually look at things and admire it.
Yeah, we're always on the move. Even there we were. We were fairly on the move. We didn't really get to spend a lot of time before everything started happening.
[00:20:36] Speaker D: I pray that you will have time, Val, to enjoy the little things like that.
Perhaps after all this is done, we can go back and I can give you a proper tour of my home if I'm still here.
[00:20:52] Speaker C: I don't know if even if you are here, I'd be able to do that.
[00:20:57] Speaker D: Why is that?
We know where and how to get there.
[00:21:01] Speaker C: I don't think I'm gonna be here anymore at that point.
[00:21:09] Speaker D: He looks confused for a moment before
[00:21:14] Speaker A: looking down at your arm, if I remember right.
[00:21:16] Speaker C: Yeah, it's covered up still a lot.
[00:21:20] Speaker D: Ah, I see.
Your contract duty.
[00:21:27] Speaker C: I don't know how you would describe it technically. I guess it's more of like a job offer. Right now.
She, like, pulls out the clay tablet and puts it down there.
You know, the job is there, and it's affecting me right now.
An Usher, Mortal Herald. But when I'm ready to fully embrace him, just supposed to break that.
And I think I'm ready, but I'm scared to break it.
[00:22:04] Speaker A: Can uwe read what's on the tablet?
[00:22:07] Speaker B: Does uwe know Empyrean?
[00:22:10] Speaker A: I do, yeah.
[00:22:13] Speaker B: There's a ton of, like, really tiny text that seems to be like the specific terms of the agreement and everything. But the. The larger text that's easier to read just reads, break this. To seal the agreement,
[00:22:30] Speaker A: he would actually try and read all the subtext. While he doesn't have any law or anything applicable skill, it's more of just scholarly.
[00:22:40] Speaker B: So it does spell out the terms that we had discussed previously of Val becoming a servant directly under Barzok as like a beginning her steps as an Usher. But then it also lines out that once she really comes into her own as an Usher, there's potential for her to move up and become, you know, a. An equal with him. That. That would be something potential down the line. But she would start as being, you know, directly under his command.
[00:23:09] Speaker D: What makes you fearful of taking this opportunity?
[00:23:14] Speaker C: I don't know.
I've.
I mean, I've Worked it out. It'll make sense to me.
You know, all my life, I've been running, and I've been in rebellion against myself, against all the people in my life, Heymir, everyone who's told me what to be and how to be. I've always just wanted to be just what I wanted to be. And when Pharasma came around, it didn't feel like something I got to choose.
Shallon was something I got to choose.
And that grew and grew, and it became more apparent that I had some sort of connection and I was important to Pharasma in some way.
And I think I came to the realization that I was just being selfish.
My pure headstrongness of just wanting to do everything and become something I didn't even know what. But I wouldn't allow the thought of letting someone else guide me be a thing. And honestly, as this has been growing and I've been feeling that way, I've been feeling closer for Asma. But it was once, after talking to Barzok for a bit, everything started to feel a little clearer.
[00:24:42] Speaker A: Then
[00:24:45] Speaker C: I was nervous because I'd be making that choice to give up everything. I feel like I've been working towards for something that feels more right than what I've been doing. A way to actually help people.
So much of what we do right now is helping people, but it's all caught up in all this stuff.
I'm not sure sometimes if we're always doing the most helpful thing.
I mean, we unleashed a big dragon.
But once we were in Irison, when I took those children's souls into the boneyard, that felt like he was what I was meant to be doing.
The closest I felt like that before was when Cornelius took me.
And I felt like I was.
Had a purpose.
And that all turned out to be a lie.
And I'm kind of scared that the same thing could happen again.
All this seems so right, and it feels. Feels like the thing that I'm supposed to do. And it's the thing I want to do.
But I'm worried that it's all just gonna slip out from underneath me again. And I'm gonna be just left on my own again.
[00:26:18] Speaker D: There are no certainties in life, Val, that I am most painfully aware.
Anything you do has an element of risk.
But that's not to say that your feelings are invalid.
But what you were able to do.
And Arison, you were able to help those children in a way none of us could.
You alone were able to do that, Val.
You alone were able to Help Orvus when I was powerless to do so.
That is something, Val.
A choice. You could make.
That even at the very end, when a mortal is beyond all help from another mortal, you are able to step in.
Death is an inevitability.
It is a rule.
Being able to guide one through such in itself as a gift.
To lead them to a new beginning.
If that is what you choose to do, then I think it is good.
You can't have everything in this life.
So though you may be giving up something, when you make this choice, do not fear that it won't be replaced with something good.
You have been deceived in the past.
And while you carry that scar, you have moved on from it and grown stronger, grown wiser.
You've taken what was meant for evil and turned it into something good.
As long as you continue to do that, no matter what comes towards you, you will be able to weather it.
And in this case, it is truly your choice.
No matter if Barzak or Pharasma or anyone else pressures you, or coerces you, or dissuades you, in the end, right now, Annie pushes the tablet closer to you.
It is your choice.
But I will say on my end, whatever that choice may be, I will support you.
And for what you have done already, I thank you.
For being what I could not be.
To the children.
To all of us.
To all of those that I have lost.
To all of those that will be lost.
There, I said my peace.
You don't need an old man telling you what to do.
[00:29:46] Speaker C: It's nice, kind of, though, to have some support sometimes. You know, I haven't had a lot of good experiences with people.
[00:29:57] Speaker D: People are fickle.
But not all.
Not all people, they're as much good.
[00:30:07] Speaker C: Yeah.
This all kind of makes my last time at Troll Forge seem a little silly to me.
I was a lot angrier then.
[00:30:19] Speaker D: And that was not in the right as well.
I had a lot of anger myself. Well, though I perhaps did not know it.
Convinced that my age gave me insight or wisdom, or whatever you wish to call it. Over assess that if I couldn't see it, then it wasn't correct.
And while I didn't voice it so directly, perhaps, I certainly carried it and presented many things that way.
For that, I am sorry.
[00:31:04] Speaker C: Thanks.
I'm sorry about Arvis.
That we couldn't, I don't know, do more for him.
[00:31:18] Speaker D: Orvus paid the price for his reckless experiments.
It was something that I warned him could happen back when he was still my student.
In the end, you can't Protect someone from themselves as much as you wish you could.
[00:31:45] Speaker C: Yeah.
Best you can do is try and help them see a better way.
But it's still their choice.
I didn't get a chance to ask you.
That was your home. Did you have any family that we could have maybe checked in with while we were there?
[00:32:10] Speaker A: Uvaire starts to answer, just as you would like. Oh, they were somewhere else or whatnot. But he interrupts himself, and then very
[00:32:22] Speaker D: quietly, I don't know.
I.
I don't know.
Why don't I know?
I have been away for so long that I hadn't really thought about it. But being home again, where I grew up, where I taught, where I learned.
But why is the concept of a family so foreign?
[00:32:58] Speaker C: I think Val kind of reaches her arms across the table and kind of puts her hand on yours.
There's still a lot we don't know, but we're here together. For now.
Maybe we can find a real answer.
Families can be difficult.
But with your. With everything that's going on, maybe we can find them or find an answer about them.
At some point, yes.
[00:33:36] Speaker D: But I am tired of not knowing.
I am tired of not understanding.
[00:33:43] Speaker C: I. I understand that.
[00:33:45] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:33:46] Speaker C: That's so many questions. So many things that don't seem to make sense.
People acting so weird. I.
I don't know.
But something brought us all together.
All of us who are going through similar but very different things.
Something brought us together here.
[00:34:15] Speaker D: Yes.
[00:34:17] Speaker C: And we'll find answers.
It feels like it's getting closer.
Everything's starting to come together more.
[00:34:27] Speaker D: Finding answers.
Yes.
I think it is time that we find answers.
Val, I'm gonna trust you with something that I have not spoken of with the rest of the party.
And right now, I do not think it is good to share it with anyone else.
I do have some more idea of what has happened to me and why I am the way that I am.
[00:35:03] Speaker C: You do?
[00:35:05] Speaker D: It was when you and the rest went on your excursion to the boneyard.
I met with Aidas, a name you might not be familiar with, but you know her.
It was she and her sister that gave us the tea.
[00:35:26] Speaker C: Oh, okay.
So someone knew them.
I have to admit, I was at quite the loss when the two of them showed up.
[00:35:35] Speaker D: Indeed.
I spoke with her while you all were away.
And it was there that I learned that the runes that cover my body and that we found in that cave when we all first met were made by the Vatir.
[00:36:01] Speaker C: The Vatir?
I'm not familiar with that.
[00:36:06] Speaker D: An old name for an ancient Race.
Though perhaps you would know them better as Trolls.
[00:36:17] Speaker C: Huh?
Like an ancient offshoot of the trolls or the Troll she. Trolls are like descendants of powerful, wise,
[00:36:29] Speaker D: skilled craftsmen.
[00:36:32] Speaker C: That's kind of like Pilgrim.
They have something to do with you.
[00:36:41] Speaker D: Not all, but one.
[00:36:44] Speaker C: You think Pilgrim did?
[00:36:50] Speaker D: I don't think Pilgrim did, but perhaps he knows of the one that is responsible.
I wish to go speak with him again.
I do not wish to hurt Pilgrim.
I do not think I will.
But I didn't know what he knows after what I've learned.
[00:37:19] Speaker C: All right, yeah.
If he knows all of this, could have learned a lot more sooner.
[00:37:26] Speaker D: But, Val, as I am not telling you everything now, I ask that you do not tell anyone even what I have told you, or that even you learn as little as you can about what I am going to do.
And it is not because I do not trust you.
It is because this being that is the cause of what I am can take your choice and who you are and change them irrevocably.
[00:38:07] Speaker C: Yeah.
If you found out about this before and before and before then that might be.
Yeah, okay, right.
Sounds kind of a lot of potential for danger.
[00:38:28] Speaker D: I'm not the Lone Valley.
If I face this creature, I will not be alone, and I will not force you to follow what I ask.
I ask only in concern.
As a friend.
I do not wish my past to bring harm to you or the rest of the party, especially as the danger that it is, what it can do, what it has done.
[00:39:02] Speaker C: If any harm comes to me out of the Suvaire, it'll be because it was my choice, not because of you or your past.
[00:39:15] Speaker D: It is a long journey. I will not be able to take us there immediately.
It would be best if we could travel sometime before I get in range, so to speak.
[00:39:29] Speaker C: Well, I was actually thinking about asking you about another stop we could maybe make.
[00:39:37] Speaker D: So.
[00:39:37] Speaker C: On the way.
I grew up in a town called Utherton.
After my mom died and Hymir was gone, in the war, there was a family that took me in.
Farren was his name.
Him and his family.
And they raised me until Hymir came back. The first 10 years of my life or so.
I don't know if I'm ever going to get another chance to see them.
And I was wondering if we could swing by and I could talk to
[00:40:20] Speaker A: them before I. Uvaire puts a hand on top of your hands.
[00:40:25] Speaker C: And I imagine the one on top is her weird arm. Like her arm that's been affected, so
[00:40:29] Speaker A: it feels cold interrupting you.
[00:40:33] Speaker D: Of course, we can make that stop.
I am not in so much of a hurry that we cannot make such a necessary delay.
And perhaps you can finally put to rest some of the things that you've been carrying for far too long.
[00:40:55] Speaker C: Yeah, I think so.
[00:40:57] Speaker B: And as the two of you continue this moment of connection, this heartfelt conversation, our camera will just slowly move out until it does that thing where it moves through the glass panes of the window and we just see the night sky beginning to darken overhead.
And that is where we will end this episode.
[00:41:20] Speaker C: Ooh. All right,
[00:41:24] Speaker B: all right. And the hero point for today's episode goes to Sven.
It was a close call between the two of you because both of you had really good stuff in the conversation. But the tiebreaker goes to Sven for the tying back in closing that conflict between Val and Uvair and really being able to do that comparison of how you both have grown since then.
[00:41:47] Speaker A: Oh, well, thank you, thank you, thank you.
I really enjoyed doing this episode. And, Sam, this was a lot of fun, just the two of us.
[00:41:59] Speaker D: And just.
[00:42:00] Speaker A: And Jordy doesn't count George. Jordy's third.
[00:42:04] Speaker C: What did he do this episode? Pistachios.
[00:42:07] Speaker A: That's all he did. Which, on that note, I've got a little hankering for pistachios. Man, you got some in there.
[00:42:13] Speaker C: Do you do shelled ones or pre unshelled?
[00:42:18] Speaker D: I kind of do both.
[00:42:19] Speaker C: Oh, I've never had, like. I've never, like, been given a shelled pistachio. I only ever had unshelled pistachios.
[00:42:24] Speaker A: Let's go. Let's go raid the pantry and see if we can find some pistachios.
[00:42:28] Speaker C: So see, what are the odds Jacob has pistachio or ghost pepper powder? I don't know. Oh, ghost pepper.
[00:42:35] Speaker B: While the two of them are heading off to raid the pantry. I'm just gonna let you all in the audience here. I'm gonna let you all in on our after credits scene for this episode where as the two Val and Hoover were heading upstairs to go to their rooms. The floor show is starting downstairs, and this woman walks up to the front of the stage and says, nice. And then all the dancers behind her yell, pistachio. Then they all start tap dancers.
[00:42:59] Speaker C: Are the dancers dressed as giant pistachios?
[00:43:02] Speaker B: Oh, yes, of course.
[00:43:05] Speaker C: I'm so happy we went to bed.
[00:43:09] Speaker B: I bid you all good listeners farewell. May dreams of pistachios dance in your heads.
[00:43:15] Speaker D: Nice.
[00:43:16] Speaker B: We'll see you in the next episode.

[00:44:09] Speaker C: Why'd you do this to us?
I like to reload my save and
[00:44:15] Speaker B: it could go to the bored snowdrop instead.
[00:44:18] Speaker C: No, this is fine.
[00:44:19] Speaker A: We'll stick to this.
[00:44:21] Speaker B: There are responsible seals in no.
